Advice Needed (6/5 speed swamp)

Im going to get a 01-02 corolla. Most of them are autos. I however am looking for a manual. I was wondering how easy would it to be to swamp a 5 speed and/or 6 speed into an auto. What would be some price est. for the transmission (as well as clutch asmb. and nick nacks) and instalation. Would finding parts at a junkyard be cheaper/ worth while or should i plan on buying a new/rebuilt one?

I know to fit a celica 6 speed in to a corolla you need to grind down the top of it. But where and by how much. Is there a thread with pix explaining the process? (couldnt find one) What year/model celica had the 6 speed? How much would a celica 6 speed be against a corolla 5 speed?

Most importantly how much would i be looking to spend? Should i just keep my eyes open for a manual?

if i do swamp the auto out for a manual I might as well use a celica 6 speed so info on the 6 speed is favored.

First of all.. if you're "GOING" to buy a 01-02 Corolla.. then look for one with a 5-speed transmission already in it. :rolleyes: That would save you time and money, even if you decide later on that 5 speeds is not enough and you wanna "swap" a 6-spd transmission from a Celica or a Matrix into it. At least this one will already have a clutch setup rather than having to adapt pedals and cables to an automatic. :)

Ive only helped swamp out manuals for manuals and never had to deal with pedels. How much trouble is it?

Does n e one else have n e input about the other questions? Im dying to know but havnt been able to turn up n e thing on a search.

^ Mr. Urbandork I think what my eloquent friend REN69 is trying to say is that "swamp" is where Yoda lives on Dagoba and "swap" is when you exchange one thing for another.

On to your question, It makes no sense to buy an A/T then swap to M/T if you look hard enough you can easily find an M/T 01-02 Corolla (like mine).
They are more rare than the A/T, but not really rare like a MKIV Supra or anything, you can find one if you look around a bit.
PS if you are concerned with performance go with a CE or an S because the LE weighs more. As for the 6-speed they will not bolt up to a 1zz-fe as far as I know, but they come on the 00-up Celica GT-S and the MAtrix XRS and now on the new 2005 Corolla XRS.

I didnt know that the LE was heavier then the S and CE. off the top of your head do you know by how much and what causes this?

it's caused all the standard equipment in the car. ie power windows, air con etc

Actually power windows, doorlocks, sunroof, etc. are options on all trim levels for those years.

The S is 40 pounds lighter than the LE and 5 pounds less that the CE, it's not much considering variations in driver's weight.
