Me personally - I will wait till a car in the same class as the 350z or the rx-8 comes out - then that will be the car i purchase

I intend to purchase a Tc. I plan to wait at least 6 months from the Michigan release date of June. I figure this will give Toyota some time to work out any initial quality issues. Also, I intend to purchase the supercharger.

If my testdrive (whenever they make it to my part of Virginia) goes as well as I hope, then I'll definitely be a tC owner.

I'd like to wait a year, as well, for the bugs to be dealt with...but I really need a new car now and don't want to buy some sort of "temporary car."

I am in the same boat as you. I really want to wait a year, but a temporary car does not make since for me. Here is hoping that the tC has a good first model year.

^i agree with both

I never really trust the first year of cars. Always have minor problems. Like wiring and what not. I'm seriously considering droping my gen3 camry for a tC in a way its the same car, same engine and all, just a little more style. And supercharger is a must. My camry is quick but not as quick as i would like it.

i'm probably gonna get one to share with the girl friend next year a daily
if nothing else comes out around that price range!Tc is what i'm getting..

and that's right the super charger is a must.. i'd get bare minimum with the car no accessories just the Super Charger maybe the trd exhaust at most... the strut bar too, huh..
damn it!
fixing up cars is an addiction!

I don't think the Scion tC is using a 5SFE..

Well, my hope is that since the tC seems to be sort of a "cut and paste" car from other Toyotas....maybe the tried and tested parts will work just as well when they are mixed in the new format.

Worst case...I get the car...it has issues, and I trade it in sometime later for a new and improved tC. ;)

there's warrantys no need to trade it in ..toyota should fix anything that wrong with the car for free.. especially if they know about it.

how ironic.. i just got a nice approval from my insurance company
for a new car purchase.. and luckily there's 3 scion dealerships
within my vicinity.. gonna head out later today and talk shop.

*UPDATE* well i went down and got my tC on order.. there was
one in stock but unfortunately it was an auto/transmission and
i wasn't gonna have that.

hopefully i won't have to wait to long (anywhere from 2-6 weeks
for it to be delivered).. i decided to go with the Silver Streak Mica,
i'm happy about the purchase :D

future tC owner... whatever

try tC owner... PERIOD

Picked up the one and only tC in Winston-Salem on Tuesday. Only additions to it were that it came with the mini-spoiler and mudflaps... everything else is of course standard.

It's an automatic (don't drive stick), and it's Indigo Ink Pearl (the exact color I wanted... as if this car was destined for me).

In two days I am going down to the scion delership to order my new Tc. I was going to get an xB fore car audio purposes but I drove the tC and there is no going back. It is way faster than my modified GM 3800. I am ordering the supercharged one so it will be a while but I am for sure getting one.

When did a 4cyl Camry become quick?

And it's a different engine than your car by the way. In fact, in no ways is it the same except that it is fwd and uses a 4cyl engine.

New poster here...

I'm 95% to buy a tC. the dealer "ordered" the indigo ink auto for me about 5 days ago. I was told 2 days ago that a shipment just arrived in L.A. (I'm in SF Bay Area) and that some kind of dealer trade made it so that my car will be up here "any day now." The local dealers don't even have one to test drive. Once mine gets here, I'll test drive it, see if I (6'3", 240 lbs) fit well in it and if I do then I'll get it. I got to sit in one and seemed to fit OK. We'll see how it drives.

Hopefully I'll check back here in a few days with reports of my new car.

Well, I don't know what kinda' car you're used to driving....but I'm pretty sure you'll love the tC.

I've had mine for a little less than three weeks and I have 1600 miles on it. :)

Good luck getting your car quickly!

I test-drove the tC several weeks ago and am sold on it. The only thing holding me back is my financial advisor's (i.e., spouse's) desire to avoid purchasing another new car until her very nice '02 Accord EX is paid for. I agree with this intellectually but its sooooooo hard to accept emotionally!

Here's a ? for the proud new owners...How are you breaking in the engine? Are you doing anything special, ie keeping the RPMs under 4K or anything like that?

F014tomcat
08-18-2004, 11:58 PM
Well, I'll put it this way... If it was out back in January and I knew about it, I would have seriously considered it. But I got a Tacoma, and now I wouldn't be able to give it up. So I guess that just means I'll have to buy a tC in addition to my Tacoma then, right??

Well I have a tc and I kind of figured it might have initial problems but like the other guy said, at least the warranty will cover that stuff.... and I'm happy to be one of the only ones in my county with the car... waiting a year will just get rid of the whole rare car factor... The only problem I have is the sunroof popping like everyone else was saying...

Hmmm, I'm surprised there are so many waiting to buy instead of buying now.

I'm deeply considering getting one. I'm loving the way it looks in white. It seems to bring out the faint lines in the car. I don't like how the wheels look with the white, however. I still need pay off my '00 Civic but that should happen in the next 2 months. After I save some money up to throw on top of a trade-in, I might be placing my order sometime around 6 months from now. I'm supposed to get a call sometime in December to take a blown version for a test drive. I think that will be the final decision maker. Mmmmm... boost...

i'm sure its a great car after all I've read, and the test drive I took, evan tho that was an auto... I mean I could tell it had some ummph, but what I think is happening is that people think that because of the price and new company, that things might just start falling off it or something.... Ok so maybe I exaggerated a little, but that may be the stigma behind the hesitation to buy.
Plus next years may have some new goodies.

Believe me, if I could I'd have a delivery date set. I need to take care of some past due bills along with making sure I'm straight with my courses before I can take the next step. I want to wait anyways and see what else they offer for the car that I may want to finance with it. My dealership had a sign that said leather heated seats will be available soon. If they have enough lateral support those might be a set thing for me.

Just purchased (leased, actually) a 5MT Black tC. Just joined the forum, too :).

First impressions: this car is fun to drive!

Shifter

Shifter is smooth, albeit I'd like it as a short-throw. Maybe later, when aftermarket produces a nice short-throw...

Power & Performance

The car is spunky. Yeah, funny word, I know, but I mean the car pulls very nice, although I'm breaking it in and am not passing 3K rpm nor accelerating if I can help it. I own a 350Z (supercharged) and a Jeep Cherokee (with few mods) and both are very torquey, and this car's fun factor is equal. I cannot help myself, though, so this car will get TRD's SC at least, if not more. Before I drove tC, I drove Mazda 3s and it does not compare. The 2.4L 4-cyl is very nice. 9.6:1 compression means it can easily be boosted to 8-9psi (with 350Z 7-8psi is about the safe max) and hopefully the internals (rods/pistons) won't mind that.

Fit

I'm 6'3" and car is fine, albeit snug. Legroom is somewhat limited, you tall guys will find that playing with seat will yield a few positions in which it is good to drive. Pedals are well positioned for heel-toeing, which is really good, since the engine RPM is a bit lagging to throttle input, so you have to blip a few times, and do it a bit earlier than I'm used to in the Z.

I.C.E.

Base stereo is nice, but optional steering wheel controls would be very cool. Also, having to press buttons to go through volume control is a bit annoying. Sub and upgraded stereo will be another must in the line of mods.

Other

Mirrors are GREAT. In 350z I need a helper mirror for sure. Not so here, this car has got good coverage. Reminds me of the Jeep :).

Opening all windows (and moonroof) generates one too many wind eddies (if you got long hair -- ladies! -- it tends to flutter, have a bandana or something). This is a small minus, though. I'm guessing this is due to no back windows and cabin/hatch space design. Not a biggie for me, but mentionable.

Car is nice and quiet. Nuff noise in the Z, this car is a nice change.

Great car overall, at great price (~$16500 for base manual).

Huzzah!!! my car came in!!
I love this car. today's only the second day, but here are some first impressions to go along with bascelik's thoughts...

- accelleration is great, I'm having a hard time taking it slow to break in the engine
- I'm also 6'3" and feel quite comfortable driving it. I raised the front lip of the seat just a bit and lowered the seat all the way
- some have complained that at high speeds with the moonroof open the car is quite noisy. I was doing 95 with the stereo at my normal volume (kinda high) and didn't notice a significant increase in wind noise.

the pleasure of looking at my new car is second only to the pleasure of driving it.

Bought my TC back on June 30th. It's the charcoal one. It's an auto, b/c my wife refuses to drive a stick in the traffic around here. Love the car. My friends love how much room there is in the back. I like all the little added features such as all windows auto down and up. The car has pretty good pickup. The standard rims are beautiful. I was quite surprised that they were standard. Might add the S/C one of these days.

Forget the TC if you're over 6 foot. It's a midget mobile with no headroom designed for the Japanese market .It's heavier than the Celica it will replace next year and gets substantially worse gas mileage. A poor replacement for the Celica IMHO!

Hello All,

Just ordered a Black Sand pearl - tC yesterday. Very excited to pick it up on mndayor Thursday by latest. Accessories - TRD exhaust system, mats, Pedestal spoiler. Looking forward for the turbo charger.

I want to thank you all for posting their reviews here. It did help me a lot when talking with the salesman at the dealership.

If you are in denver area, stay away from Burt Toyota.

Thanks again.
