IS 300 Goes Topless In 05

Thats right you heard me right, the Lexus IS 300 is going to have a convertable in 05, it is not said weither it will be marketed as a 05 model or 06.

But with the new IS sibiling, the other IS siblings will feature a new sportier look as well.

The down side, there is still no plans to upgrade the engine or even give an engine upgrade option like the GS.

I should have pics by the end of Oct

Will it be higher powerred?

Will it come in a 2dr.... :p:

Sportivo Concepts
09-20-2004, 10:58 PM
Fromm the info I got, nothing new done to the engine, hp is still the same,

as for it being a 2dr, most likely.... I really cant picture it being a 4dr convertable, although that is still possible. I think the PT Cruiser should have stayed 4dr, not it looks like a mini bish pu*** wagon.

as for info is treakled out i'll post all that I can

whatever happened to the plans of releasing the IS with the big 4.3L V8?? Didnt Rod Millen or one of those companies actually drop that V8 into an IS and show it around for a while last year?

IS430 = :eek:

Can you say M3 killer?

They should be powered more. Or even have a turbo edition. 210 hp is weak. :thumbdown :disappoin

Yeah they did, but it was only a concept...... as of right now Lexus is not planning on doing anything like that, plus a IS 430 would surge the price tag to atleast the low to mid 40s

UfoZ
09-21-2004, 12:46 AM
but even with a low to mid 40s price tag it would still be 15 grand cheaper than an M3 and probably right on par, if not better performing than it...

Rod Millen IS430 - Links to pics! I've a bunch of my cpu from SEMA, but I'm not about to spend an hour or so figuring out (or photochoppin em down to size) how to post them all.

unless someone tells me to (& tells me how?). ... I wonder if I didn't get the photos on tn ... i bet i did.

anyway - the second link has good info on everything installed.
the third one has a nice pic of the carbon fiber engine cover.

And look at the date the press release came out its from June, tell me if you see anything on the SC press release about a Pebble Beach Edition..... heck not even the new in-store (dealership) brochures have anything about it.

If I remember correctly, and I hope I'm not confusing this with the SC, but it is suppose to have 18's standard and there are ew optional 17" rims as well.

The Convetable will be in limited production as well, I'm guessing to test the water to see how it will do

New IS will be a 2006 available in late 2005 according to insiders. Sedan first with coupe and Convertible to follow a few months later. Power will come from a choice of two new V6's with a lot more power (not confirmed yet, but you'll all be extremely happy). RWD or optional AWD is also rumoured as is the choice of 5spd auto/6spd man transmissions. Dealers were shown initial concepts in Chicago last week. Hopefully we'll see a real concept at Detroit in January.

Lexus didn't really publicize the Pebble Beach SC because it was extremely limited production and all were sold orders. 35 total in Canada. Basically the logic was why tease someone with a car you can't even sell them.

Flow. thanks for the clarifcation....

and the Pebble Edition SC here in the states really isn't that hard to find... I have found 2 in my area in Fl and out of 5 area dealerships in the NYC/LI area 3 had them......

IS430:

0-60 - 5.1 sec

1/4 Mile - 14.0

E46 M3:

0-60 - 4.8 sec

1/4 Mile - 13.2

I'd still take the IS430 over the M3!!!!!!:)

Those numbers don't mean much. The IS430 was made (abit quickly) as a one-off, and it was never put into races or anything. I'm sure with more time spent on tuning it can definitely be a faster car.

For the cost to drop a 4.3 into an IS I'd rather drop in a turbo. More bang for the buck I'd think.

^--yeah, but do the same mods to the 430 as you would the 300, and we'll see what happens..:)

haha yea it will proabably kill the M3 because the M3 is real heavy, but it doesnt stand a chance agisnt the 500hp 600 ft/lbs torqe M5, oh and a 7 speed smg transmision... thats going to be a beast

Ack. Well, it's supposed to be a hard top convertible coupe and it does get an engine change. It uses the new 3.0L V6 from the 06 GS300 and Crown Athlete in Japan. The IS350GT gets the new 3.5L debuting in the Avalon sometime next year. It's rated at 300hp for the IS350GT and 270hp/280lb-ft for the Avalon fastback sedan.

A 3.5L V6 producing the same amount of hp as the 4.3L V8 is just crazy, but I think Toyota is planning a high output upgrade for the V8.

looks good to me. a lot better than the original. in regards to it looks a lot like mazda...who really cares? car companies will always look at their competitors and will take the best elements of their styling and even engineering. all that matters is if the car looks good to you or not and to me this car looks sexy. besides, many cars look a lot different in person compared to how it looks in pictures. i used to think that the TSX is ugly from pictures on the internet but when i saw it in person i liked it a lot.

It has been confirmed, Lexus is getting rid of the IS SportCross for "'06". IS330 2dr, 4 way retractable top convertible. IS 430 it's for real it's going to be the baddest Lexus since the GS400. No more 2JZ engine it will have the same 6 cyl as the new GS.

is it me, or does that look like the LF-S concept, yes I know that LF stands for Lexus Future-S, but c'mon that foto has been doctored so much that there is alot of noise and is very grainy, or plus, if you look at the upper right hand corner you can see the picture that they so badly cropped out, which means a poor scan from a low quality scanner.

and no offensive to our fellow Aussies, but why would Toyota/Lexus test out a Lexus there, when the US is Lexus flapship country

I can show you guys, real pics of the LF-C concept, with its LED backlight front Lexus badge and LED headlight/turnsignals full interior the whole kitten ka-boddle as well as LF-X/HPX.

there is most likely a press kit out there with pics of the LF-S concept, that a magazine used and then these guys copied/scaned it cause you can defintely tell that they are not using an orginal pic because its too noisey and grainy

I'm loving that LF-C. It does look familiar, but the tails make it look much better and also the front looks a bit more aggressive to me.
