Gov. Arnold signed a bill this past week allowing for up to 75,000 hybrid cars to use the car-pool lane even if only the driver is present.

The qualifications for this are that the car get 45mpg. Currently only honda and Toyota produce cars that meet the standards. However Ford is continuing to try and encourage the state to change that rule to include the Hybrid Escape which gets 36mpg highway and 31mpg city.

The info I have says it is only offered to Hybrids. No diesels.

^^not anymore. Germany has refined diesel engines to where that black soot that used to come out of the tailpipes don't anymore.

FYI, Diesels aren't permitted in the program. The cars must have an electric engine in it to qualify.

It's about time Arnold did something meaningful.

CARB is antidiesel. I know of quite a few TDI owners, being one myself, that get better than 45MPG.
