On this website, it say something about low center of gavity and wide chasiss. I guess we will know in 2 weeks.
ASG14 10-27-2004, 11:33 PM WTF is that???? A new Toyota? I want pics!!!!!!!
DrtySthV6SE 10-27-2004, 11:44 PM that looks neat
MrRavenX 10-28-2004, 03:23 PM I don't think the car is really going to be shaped like an X, is it?
I guess I gotta wait till November 11th for some answers
4Aaron GE 10-28-2004, 04:33 PM Poking around the site, it would appear that it's a new type of chassis? Maybe it's the next iteration of the Cressida/MarkII/Verossa cars?

I was thinking that. Maybe an X across the chassis to stiffin it up? So some kinda sports car maybe????
Hatch 10-28-2004, 05:48 PM That site is such a tease....what could possibly be THAT important that they are releasing it on a specific day???
from what it looks like its going to be a new car....but I could be wrong.
The headlights look too big, upright and round to be a sports car, most likely a larger sedan.

Thats not the best way to stiffen a chassis, it would need to be boxed, which would mean more material, which would mean more weight. Unless the 'X' is formed as part of the floorplan.

i though that also when i saw the size and shape of the wheels in the little video
dna59 10-29-2004, 08:50 AM They actually have a time to launch counter. That's weird. I guess we'll see when times up.
02RSX90camry 10-29-2004, 01:43 PM anyone else think the headlights look a lot like a crossfire's headlights?
Hatch 10-29-2004, 01:48 PM OHHH mabee its the new avalon??

That's what I'm thinking, as the Cressida/Mark II/Chaser/Cresta/Verossa had the X-chassis... MX73, MX83, JZX81, JZX90, JZX100, JZX110, etc...
The current (JZX110) has been around for a few years, this may be the new one.
aSiAnRiCk 10-30-2004, 03:01 AM imagine if you get into an accident driving that car
02RSX90camry 10-30-2004, 07:33 PM dude...u know it's not gonna be an x, right?
Xenon 10-31-2004, 02:24 PM lol I hope you don't think it's gonna be that X only!! That's just the whole theme..
I don't think it's a sports car either, it's either another SUV or a large-size sedan
terrythisis 10-31-2004, 10:34 PM it'll release on 11-9-04, so just check back there then
umm....
X-BOX doesnt really shape like an X
so yea, x-body, take ur time and imagination, lol
also, you can barely see the shape of the actual car in the intro
asscarracer 11-02-2004, 10:24 PM Isnt that the protype car that is controlled by a computer that calculates distance between cars to control speed and is based on all that cars of the future crap

Ayup. Ten bucks says that this is the next generation Cressida/Mark II, which has always been on Toyota's X chassis. Of course, we haven't gotten those since 1993 :(

That would make sence ...why the site is only in Japanese.

no, it's sold there too...
it has a weird name, something like Proggesto...
and there's a different version in Australia, but its named the Avalon...
repinS 11-09-2004, 08:03 PM So the car was 'released' today.
It IS the next Toyota Mark II. Man, is it HOT. If only the Cressida had remained, North America could have had this. Thanks, Lexus :(
Direct injection V6. I see some Altezza/IS up front, but still, DAYUM. :boink:

"MARK X from TOYOPET"
I had no idea the Toyopet name was still in use???
Thundercat 11-10-2004, 07:18 PM This is a hott car...the only thing we can hope for is that it might come to the U.S. as a Lexus..

A 3.0L V6 making 250~hp??? I smell that's what the next IS300 will use aswell.
xpeed 11-11-2004, 02:00 AM You guys haven't seen the interior. The interior is the main reason why I would get it.
http://www.toyota.jp/Showroom/All_toyota_lineup/markx/interior/images/int00_svg.jpg
xpeed 11-11-2004, 02:02 AM Here's the layout:
RWD=256 hp
4WD = 215hp
Engine is probably too big for the Altezza/IS300 engine bay. You could squeeze it in, but there would be no room to work the engine around with. Like Americans cars, no room to play around with the engine.
cam2Xrunner 11-11-2004, 02:04 AM Looks like it could be the same platform as the 2006 lexus gs.
Aussie Ed 11-11-2004, 02:13 AM i like it, looks like its got some very good potential to be a sports/luxo sedan:D
also looks a little like the current series nissan maxima, which has the same engine as the 350z but detuned

yeah, that interior is nice:)
as for the space in an IS issue....the IS is being redesigned (to the LFC) remember? so they've most likely thought of that already, before making it.

If they even offered it here. God forbid, Toyota offering a Toyota model that's higher or about as high as a Lexus ES. :(
I kinda would have liked it better if it had retained the 1JZ-GTE, which was available on the Mark II (now Mark X) since like 1990. Until now.

First of all it's a V6 and I wasn't even talking about the current gen IS.

It's the 10th generation Mark II.
X = 10
Hence Mark X.
As far as I know. :)
do you suppose this x-body (chasis, i'm thinking) is the same type of chasis that's in the xRunner? the xRunner is supposed to have some kind of x frame or something.
repinS 11-14-2004, 08:18 PM No.
The X only signifies the chassis family designation. For example...
Supra/RWD Celica = A
Lexus SC300/Toyota Soarer = Z
Corolla = E
FWD, post '86 Celica = T
Ne0z31 11-15-2004, 11:00 AM yay... just what toyota needs... yet ANOTHER Family Sedan lookin car... Toyota has started goin weak, cancelling thier only 2 cars that even have very much performance potential (if you even wanna call it that...) and now, wilst getting our hopes up, brought out another car that looks like a Corolla/Camry... dont get me wrong, i love toyota, but my next car is going to be brand new and I am going to go for a performance car... and as it looks, i wont be going toyota (plus the fact they are going V6... all the companies are, even after showing that the I6 is a GODLY design... ) it almost brings a tear to my eye seeing that Toyota has really has been getting thier asses handed to them in the performance catergory...
Deuce 11-15-2004, 02:27 PM ^^Toyota also made $10.2 billion in revenue last year - more than GM, Ford, and DaimlerChrysler combined.
They're handing asses to others.

The V6 in the Mark X will have direct injection and 250-300hp. And good handling. For comparison, the 1JZ-GTE that was in the previous Mark II (the front end of which looks very close to the 2003 Corolla... but the Mark II came first) made about 280hp, the Mark X should be near that, naturally aspirated.
Not enough for you? ;)
Ne0z31 11-15-2004, 08:40 PM no... definately not, that still makes it a v6, which if its not turbocharged stock (even if it is) then its gonna be a bitch to turn it into something powerful for a reasonable ammount of money... God forbid they come up with a new design for a body style either... looks like the Matrix, the Camry, The Corolla... Im just askin for soemthing sporty with AWD or RWD and Turbocharged... toyota is the king of this yet they squander thier efforts into making family sedans... all they care about it seems it the Money involved in it and not the fun of the car.

DING DING DING DING DING....
Toyota never claimed to be a sports car maker, so why are you acting like it should be..?
Toyota is out to make money, and they sure as hell are doing what they set out to do...
Ne0z31 11-15-2004, 11:49 PM yes, but they are also pretty big in the pro racing circuit, and with all the demand people seem to have recently for a powerful sports car from thier favorite manufacturer, you'd think they'd do something about it...
91MR2quickNA 11-17-2004, 05:46 AM Toyopet = TRD Japan
The GR series engine is the engine that's gonna be used in the upcoming 2006 GS300. 3GR-FE.
It should also be noted that sports cars don't sell well. The sales always dwindle year after year. It's a proven fact, and it's a limited market with limited potential for profit. It's not just imports that suffer either. The Camaro and Firebird are done. Trucks and family sedans are lucrative. The top 3 sellers are still full sized trucks: Ford F-150, Chevy Silverado, and Dodge Ram, respectively.
As for my two cents on the Mark X: it's a classy, aggressively styled (from the front) sedan, and I love the exhaust tips.

Compuwiz 12-05-2004, 04:36 PM So...did we ever get an straight up answer to this?
Other than the fact that it is damn sexy. And personally, I think those headlights are wicked hot. Its about time toyota puts some HID projectors in their cars.
yes, but they are also pretty big in the pro racing circuit, and with all the demand people seem to have recently for a powerful sports car from thier favorite manufacturer, you'd think they'd do something about it...
It's so easy for people whine but you actually think everyone **wants** a Supra will buy one in the next 6-12 months if it is still available???
IS300 doesn't sell that well as it is and the price tag today is cheaper than a MKIV Supra back in 95.
repinS 12-05-2004, 05:20 PM It's so easy for people whine but you actually think everyone **wants** a Supra will buy one in the next 6-12 months if it is still available???
Yer, it's pretty much the same reason why the Camaro/Firebird got shelved.
Everybody loved it.
Nobody bought it.
