Tundra Diesel

I was flipping through one of the many bias auto mags when I saw an article that caught my attention. I've known for a couple of months that Toyota is coming out with a Diesel version of the Tundra. But, this was the first time I read the specs on the truck, check this-390hp 700ft.lb of torque, spanks the current class leading Chevy/GMC Duramax diesel. Toyota is looking to Aisin to build a stout trans for this truck.

I think I read it in Motortrend, other rumors say that the truck's engine might be built by Hino.

I also heard this ... I can wait for this to come out ... I've been wanting a Turbo Diesel soo bad... If they come out I'm buying one... I heard 390hp and 700lbs ft tq...
But I thought it would go under the 400N banner instead of the Tundra...

Either way I hope they also strenghten the frame soo I could install a 5th wheel... then its really bukaki time...

This truck is a threat to the environment. The only thing you need 700 ft-lb to do is pull old growth trees out of the ground whole. Oh wait -- I guess you can use it to make Ford "Powerstroke" diesel guys even more insecure about their inadequate "personal displacement." :naughty: As much respect as I have for Toyota (even following my defection to the Infiniti camp...), what scares me about this possibility is the thought that the geniuses who devised such names as "Camry" and "Prius" (which is only only two letters from "Priapus" :lol: ) may come up with something even dorkier and more obvious than "Powerstroke." Something like the "Toyota ThickDick Diesel". . .

Well I think they're going to keep the guys who designed the Camry and Prius away from this 4OON hell it's being built in San Anto,Tejas. I hope it does'nt have that weird looking design styling like they did to the new Tacoma, it's still cool though. Just imagine Turbo Diesel,lifted on 20" wheels with mud tires. Welcome to the truck game Nissan, thought you were cute with your Titan but Toyota comin' back with a vengance.

The current frame on the D-cab Tundra is strong, it was designed by Hino. But now Hino is going to play a bigger part in this new Diesel.

the engine is probably taken from the Hino production line..they should also add a dualie..it'll be awesome..a tundra pulling my toyota racecar wit 3t-gt LOL!

Ya I want proof as well at this point a Diesel Tundra is just a rumor, nothing substantuating it. I do believe they will do it but not sure when or power #'s, and apparently there is a 1 ton duelly Tundra in the works.

The new plant in San Antonio,TX is where the Tundra is going to be built. Toyota wants the upper hand in the truck game, they don't want to be beat again by Nissan.

This was posted in the recent issue (Feb 2005) of Truck Trend. Apparently, Nissan is also considering a turbo diesel for the Titan. The specs they wrote were exactly the same for the Tundra Turbo Diesel: 390hp and 700lb-ft.

Tundra Turbo-Diesel would be sweet! As an owner of a 2002 Tundra, I can tell you the only way to make it better would be to add a TD engine, which would probably provide better mileage than the current iForce gas engine to go along with it's massive power/torque increase over the iForce. Oh, yeah, I can't wait!
