My 01 sienna won't start when it's humid...or after rain

Everytime when it gets humid out (usually after rain) the car starts but dies out right away. The rpm doesn't hold up...as soon as car starts the rpm drops and dies out. So I have to hit the gas as soon as I start the car. I hold the gas pedal so it stays at around 800-1000 rpm like it's suppose to. I have to hold the accelerator for a few minutes until the car warms up.

The car is well maintained...every maintenance from the dealership. I currently have a little over 100,000 miles. Does anyone else have or had similar problems? No cel and the dealer can't figure out what's wrong with the car. Also, it's hard for me to duplicate the problem as it happens occasionally when it gets humid.

Any suggestions or help will be helpful.

I would go and get some Fuel Injector cleaner and try burning premimum gas for a tank or 2 :)

Finally...someone replied. Thanks, I will try the fuel injector cleaner and as for the gas...I only use premium.

Just another thought you might want to get the spark plugs changed too. Just anouther thought but that will cost a little money

cool...I spent over $1k on 90k maintenance and brake job. I guess I'll just have to spend a few extra bucks on the spark plugs now...:D

:confused: well I sometime also face the same kind of problem after trying to figure out for a long there is one helpful clue I found. The reason might be the effect of humididty on distribution caps, ignition switch or any other wires under the hood. One thing which I tried recently was the spay of some plastic chemical on the caps which safe them from moist. I bought that from an auto store. May be you can try the same thing and see if it works or not for your case. Good luck

search how to clean your throttle body, i'm guessing you have carbon buildup. A nice spray can (throttle body cleaner) + used toothbrush should solve your starting problems. Search it out here...
