My factory harness has been ripped out :(

Recently my stereo was stolen and the thieves cut out the factory harness in my 1996 Tercel.

I'm not sure if I should wire a new stereo directly into the car or try to get a harness. Are they available from non-Toyota vendors? I was told by a dealer that the harnesses are not sold because Toyota does not want to face any legal liabilities from people who improperly wire and have their car explode :) Am I better off just going to a junkyard for one? Would it be just as easy to hardwire with no harness?

Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

You can do either or.

Metra might have a wiring harness for your car. If not goto a junkyard, cut off the plugs, and solder + heatshrink it to whatever is left over of your existing harness.

Or you could hardwire it.
