Hello everyone, I own a 1983 Toyota Celica GTS. The car has run so good for so long and now it's not. I mean not running at all. I cannot get anything to come on. No Lights, no Start, nothing. I have checked the usual. Replaced Battery, Checked Continuity in several places. But my repair manual doesn't help a lot, on where to even look for this problem. What are your suggestions. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

I'd start by check the factory ground when i bought my 83 it only had one ground wire going to the body. i replaced that with a ground dis. block you can by them on e-bay that help me out on my ground problems.

Thanks. I will change that next.

ya got a multi meter or dc volt meter?

Well, I checked the ground and I had good continuity to the chassis. And yes I do have a multi-meter. That is what I have been using to check continuity until I find someplace that has none. I am beginning to think it is the third fusable link. But I cannot find it's location. I have been going over the wiring schematic and it seems to be the only thing left that would not allow any of my lights to come on this includes the door lights that should come on right away since their circuit is not tied to the others. Do any of you know where the third fuseable link is so I can meter it!

Thanks for the ideas!

UPDATE. Today, I continued the process of checking continuity. But still unable to find a break. I am still looking for the third (what I believe by the schematic to be afuseable link). But I am still unsure of where it is no one has been able to tell me. The only ones I can find are the two in the fusebox. I must still be missing something on the schematic.

:headbang: Thanks.

something has happened not far from the battery, turn the headlites on, set the multimeter on dc volts and put a lead on the motor and a lead on the negative terminal of the battery and see if its lots less than 1 volt, then take the lead on the motor and put it on the body, if eather are anywhere near a volt or over, you got a bad ground, is the big terminal on the alt hot? Pull the steering colum covers off and see if anythings hot at the ign sw. Are there any fuses or links on the positive terminal of the battery? Follow the big wire to the starter, is the end hot, is the starter loose? are there any other wires going to the hot lead on the starter, if so, check those for breaks? Is anything hot in the fuse panel? I will go to the shop tomorrow and get a diagram off alldata and see if there are any fuses out by the battery :D

Hi guys, Update,

I did what you said. I had no voltage so I believe the ground is good. I didn't get to check everything but the big terminal is hot. The ign. switch is hot. I didn't get to check the starter but I will. Is what your thinking, that if there is a short at the starter that it would draw enough on the system that it will not allow any power to go elsewhere, not even to the door lights?

Here is what happened the day before it stopped. The battery had run down due to being cold. I jumped the car and ran it for several hours that day. The next morning I went to start it and that is when I realized that I had no power anywhere.

I will get some info posted about this, but another thing I am seeing is that this is a 1983 celica gts. Neither of my books for 1983 or 1984 wiring schematics are right. They just aren't matching up. Could there have been an 1983 1/2 model. :ugh3:

But I appreciate all the help:clap:

Hello Everyone,

Problem is finally solved. The major issue was that the battery was shot. I just couldn't tell it the volt meter read 11.53 volts (I got a new digital one.) My old one (dial type) it looked like it was reading 12 volts. But I took it back to Autozone and they didn't believe me that it was bad so I had them charge it and load test it. I came back and they said it wouldn't completely charge up. Apperantly if the battery is just under the 12 volts nothing will come on in the car.

2nd the power steer pump had shot craps as well and sprayed fluid onto the alternator not allowing it work properly either.

I appreciate all the help I got from yous guys.:thankyou: :chug:
