Hi Guys,

I just purchased a '96 2WD T100 and the tires and rims must go. The stock wheel is a 15x7" rim with 235/75/15 tires. I can't find a toyota OEM factory wheel for the '96 that comes any larger than 15x7". In the '97-'98 year model, there are some OEM factory 16x7" wheels. Is there a difference in the truck between '96 to '97 and '98? They all look the same.

I want to install a set of 16x8 wheels on 265/70/16 tires all around with. Is there any reason why this applicant will not work on a '96? Thanks in advance for your help.

Well, let me answer this question for myself and anyone else that is interested since no one responded before I changed my wheels out. Maybe it is just me, but it appears there are plenty of viewers looking at the posts on this board but few will provide a reply. Nevertheless, I installed a set of Weld Rims, 16X8, with 265/70/16s or about a 31" tall tire. They looked good, but even with cranking 1/2" or so on the T-Bars, the fit was just a little too tight and would rub the inside fender wall on hard uneven surfaces. I dropped down one inch to a set of 255/70/16s and they are about prefect. I also changed out the stock T-Bars with a set of Sway-Away T-Bars. These are 20-30% stiffer than stock and will allow you to crank in more lift (2-3 inches) in the front with Downey's Upper Control Arms, but they provide a much smoother ride at the same height as the stock T-Bars with bigger wheels. This was a nice addition.

Crain: I don't think anyone was snubbing you. It seems to me that plenty of people in these forums jump in when they know the answer. Our problem is that we drive T100s, which are a bit unusual. Often we have to do it like you did and find out for ourselves.

I have 265/75-16's on my 1997 T100 and have had no problems since I put them on 40K ago..

The only issue is that when I checked my speedo against my GPS, the speedo was reading around 3mph slowwer than I was actually doing at 60 mph..

I adjusted my driving..
