Considering a T100 for Towing my AE86 Corolla

Hi Gang,

I've been contemplating getting a truck for towing my track car to events.

I want to keep it Toyota, but how feasible is this? I cannot afford a new Tundra so I figure a T100 would be a great truck. Looks like 5000 lbs is the towing capacity for the V6 from what I've read. Is there a V8?

My Corolla weighs 2300 with full interior and stuff in it... If I bring spares, spare tires etc, the most i figure it would be is around 3000lbs. I'm thinking open trailer (I don't care about elements) with at least 1 axle.

The events I want to go to are the North American East Coast as well as at least a biannual trip to California. I wonder how a T100 would do pulling a Corolla on a trailer on twisty mountainous roads with elevation?!

I want to stay true to Toyota, so give me some feedback!

I have a 93 T100 and I pull a 2000lb boat with it. It has the 3.0L V6 which is a little slow but pulls ok. If you decide to get a T100 find a model year with a 3.4L V6 it will pull much better. If the roads are steep it will be a little slow going up but the truck can handle it. Although if you can find a V8 for the price you want to pay it would be the best choice for your application. You might be able to find a used Tundra with the V8 in it for a decent price.

I have a 97 T100 SR5 Extra Cab. I pull a full deck trailer. (about 2000 lbs.) and a Nissan 240SX on top of it. (around 2500 lbs) 8 tires on the tire rack of trailer. Plus the bed is full of spares and cab is full of gear. It tows fine on level ground, but struggles up hills. I can maintain about 45 mph on steep grades. I would HIGHLY recommend you get a weight distribution kit. It costs about $300 but makes a white knuckle driver into an absolute pleasure. Worth every penny. Try towing without it, if you're not afraid to take oyur hands off the wheel for a minute, then you may be ok. If it is a scary tow, get the weight distribution. It's not worth crashing your truck, trailer, car and whatever else you hit.

My girlfriend has a 97 V6 T100. We will get her a newer car and I will take the truck. I plan to do the same with my supra but I want an enclosed trailer. I was thinking of putting the TRD s/c on it to help with towing. I wouldnt get a v8 tundra because the tranny's are not that strong.
