1991 previa sunroof will not open [Archive] - Toyota Forums

Hello,

I have a 1991 previa rear sunroof issue.

I hit the open button, the sunroof opens only 2-3 inches and stops. I have tried wd40 and opening the sunroof back and forth, checked the tracks and still a no go.

The motor works and it acts like it should open, but is somehow locked. Are there safety locks?

Can I manually open the sunroof as a check to be sure the track is clear?

Any suggestions?

I am in the market for a Previa and I have found quite a few 1991s with that same problem. The problem with your sunroof sounds like the cables need replacing. Unfortunately they are a dealer-only item and they cost around $700 just for the parts. It usually occurs on Previas that have sunroofs that aren't used often. Since the cables are external, they are exposed to the elements- leaving them vulnerable to all types of things. Your best bet is to check the tracks first. They just might need cleaning. If that doesn't work, the cables will probably need replacing.
