crazy_camry 09-11-2002, 02:12 AM i recently installed 2 12" subs in my Gen 2.while they sound great and i get heaps of bass, the whole rear of the car vibrates. the boot lid, rear quarter panels, rear bumper, parcel tray and even something in the right rear door. besides the rear door problem, nothing of this can be heard inside the car, but outside the vibration is so bad that is all you can hear. i know there are products out there but what would you guys recommend and what can i do to help fix the problem?

I wish you much luck. When I had 2 15s in my Gen2, the only way to keep the vibrations down was to completely link the box (via hoods on all sides) to the cabin of the car... and a ton of dynamat... it was a real pain but worked very well.
rayray 09-11-2002, 02:27 PM that's what ya gotta do. make sure all your screws and bots are all tight. then sound dampen every panel you can get your hands on.

mach_y 09-11-2002, 07:57 PM go to home depot or lowes to the roofing section. Grab a couple of rolls of "Peal and Seal". Exact same stuff as dynamat, but a 50 foot long 6 inch wide roll is $14. Grab 4 or so to start, and put it everywhere you know it rattles. Make sure you clean the metal with fantasic or something similiar before you apply it so it will stick better. For gaps (such as in the crumple areas of the trunk lid, etc), get minimal expanding window / door foam. Fill those gaps everywhere with that stuff. Big one to get... put a solid piece of the Peal and Seal behind your license plate.
Bigshoguns 10-02-2002, 08:44 AM I went to home depot yesterday and they said they had no clue to what peal and seal was. is this a brand or the actuall generic name for the item. because i really need this stuff. i have 4 10" in my car Rockford and they are rattling and pissing me the F**k off.

"peel-n-seal" is a line of roofing products. If you can't find the stuff, some other economical alternatives to overpriced dynamat includes; Brownbread, RAAMmat or any other adhesive backed aluminum will work. Check E-bay or email Rick aka RAAMaudio.
I sprayed Mono expanding foam into the "ribs" of the trunk lid then layered on RAAMmatt in the entire truck, trunk lid and rear deck. It worked out great. BTW, I have a Gen3, I know Gen2 are much more "flimsy" so be prepared to layer, layer and layer. good luck.

smokey8890 10-02-2002, 08:24 PM i had a bad experience with raamatt. the stuff don't seem to like heat. it trun all to goo. plus its a bitch to clean up. maybe i got rip off on ebay. most of my trunk is dynamat. it do cost alot but to me if it save you time its worth the money.
white90dx 10-03-2002, 03:23 AM I used BrownBread for the trunk (and rear doors, so far) of my gen2 camry. It works well, I only have a few minor vibrations left, and only at certain frequencies of bass. My license plate still rattles like crazy though... Luckily, I can't hear that from inside. It just makes the car sound ghetto from the outside. Make sure everything is deadened inside, and everything is held down tight like the other guys said.

Its only available from http://www.b-quiet.com/ from what I know. Check it out. It sticks amazingly well. I also covered the edges with metal insulation tape to keep the gooey part of it from showing. Good luck!

lilkevie 10-03-2002, 04:03 PM i personally used dynamat .. only set me back $530 however .. i have 2 12"s in my trunk .. imo it vibrates less all i have to do now is screw in the 2 lower screws in my license plate holder to hold it tighter .. also i have a problem with the 3rd brake light .. that thing seems to want to rattle like theres no tomorrow .. it is seriously pissing me off and i have no idea how to make it stop .. any ideas? thanks.

Only $530 :o Whoa! I got enough Brownbread to do my whole car with about one layer for $150 plus shipping, I believe... (its a Canadian company, for all you Toronto peeps) There are still cheaper options than that out there that cost even less (the Home Depot version).
Try anything you can think of to stop the rattling in other places... stuffing soft stuff into spots to keep it from moving would probably work. Maybe the double sided foam tape? Something along those lines. Carefully find out exactly what rattling and stop each individual source instead of using the 'shotgun' approach. I guess I was just lucky that my car doesn't rattle. 8)

rpj1984 10-04-2002, 11:32 AM When i first got my subs my trunk was rattling real bad..my friend hapened to have some extra Dynamat so i used that...it seemed to work extremely well...maybe i will just get some more Dynamat...but damn it is expensive and i want to do my whole car...i might try some of that Brownbread,,we'll see...

By the Way i found it at Homedepot.(THX) 33' by 4" for 8 BUCKS and i bought bout 3 rolls and Did my whole trunk. It works great and better then Dynamat 8) . My friend has the same camry as i and he has money to burn so he had his Trunk Dynamatted; i compared this car whit mine and Peel and Seal is the same and a bit better. If u really look at Car audio products it's all the same but with fancy logos and Ads saying specially for car audio. but in the end it's Products form Home depot(Wood, Insullation, etc). But if ne one else does it let me know. i own a 98 Camry le. :D
On a off topic Would IS300 rims fit a 98 Camry Le. if yes ne one have a set for sale.

They will fit, but the offset is wrong. You will need spacers and longer wheel studs to make them fit, I believe. Is it worth it? That's up to you.

here's the stuff that i used. it's called FoilSkin by a company called Bakor. found it at Home Depot for, i think, about $14 http://www.telusplanet.net/public/rayray/CAD.jpg for a roll 23 cm by 3 meters. you can find it in the roofing section. it has a very adhesive backing and it doesn't smell all that bad like other products. it's moldable (that a word?) and waterproof. which it should be as it's really used to seal air and water leaks around corners, pipes and vents.

mach_y 10-08-2002, 01:45 PM Yup. Go to the roofing section. It is aluminum backed sticky asphalt. Comes in rolls 6 inches wide most often. It is specifically used on the seam of a roof (where one side meets the other at the top of the roof). Works perfect in cars. Look at my webpage to see how I did my doors with it.
