portoroc 08-12-2005, 06:29 PM Congrats guys ...
TOKYO — The grapevine in Japan is whispering about a hot, new 250-horsepower pure sport coupe from Toyota, coming next year, which would also double as a new Celica in Japan.
Japan's moles say they've uncovered secret plans for a new pure sport coupe from Toyota, apparently based around the Scion tC. The unnamed model, due in 2006, has 2.4-liter power, like the tC, yet is good for a reputed 250 horsepower.
Toyota is aiming at Honda's stellar Integra Type R (the more exotic, faster version of America's Acura RSX). And the idea would also be to inject some extra speed and enthusiast muscle into the tC.
America will soon bid farewell to the Celica, so this new 250-hp sport coupe would be a welcome replacement. Across in Japan, the talk is Toyota would rebadge it as the eighth-generation Celica.
While the Celica as we know it is 1.8-liter, the story goes that this new model would jump up to a special high-performance 2.0-liter motor, which may be called 2AZ-GE.
What this means to you: Biggest problem with Scion? No power. Thus, this super tC sounds super-cool; let's hope it makes it into the showrooms here.

02RSX90camry 08-12-2005, 08:00 PM if it's a 2.0L wouldn't it be eithr a 1AZ-Ge or a 3AZ-GE (assuming it even has a GE head, which i've read toyota is moving away from because it's not as useful with newer technologies that are out)
foompla 08-13-2005, 06:33 AM tc has already taken trhe celicas place in america. its doubtful to me that that toyota will be producing 250 horses out of any naturally aspirated 4 cylinders.
SEXICAN 08-15-2005, 08:28 PM Yeah that does seem a bit odd for a NA lil 4cly to produce 250hp with no sign of a FI. I would love to check out the engine on that car once it gets produced. I wonder how much thi NA 4 banger is going to cost....
CamNub 08-16-2005, 12:42 PM Yeah a N/A 250 hp motor does not sound toyota.
ScionGirl 08-16-2005, 12:43 PM I'm not holding my breathe for it... I'm still waiting for TRD to approve the Supercharger for the tC!

I wish you lived closer cause i would want to drive it and see how it compares to my car in a straight line race
REN69 08-17-2005, 08:20 AM So if Toyota is not bringing the Scion line to Canada.. I wonder if we're gonna get this car as a Celica.. or if we're even gonna get this car at all.

Well everyone is going to get the Tc as the celica, because the celica is no more and the Tc is its new, and better replacement

id rather have a gts than that hoopty tc any day!!!!
Ratko 08-18-2005, 12:16 AM A little bird told me that this rumor is untrue. I could be wrong, but that's the hearsay I heard.
MrRavenX 08-18-2005, 11:21 AM Rah? 250hp 2AZ?
The only rumor I've heard is that TRD is supposely releasing a two stage supercharger kit. One will boost power to 200hp, and the other to 300hp. The later sounds a little unrealistic to me... can anybody verify THESE rumors?
84Cressida 08-18-2005, 08:20 PM The tc Sucks hard compared to the Celica.
jcturbo 08-21-2005, 04:30 AM IMO the TC as a celica replacement is a joke, everything about the car is inferior right down the Base Camry motor under the hood, WAY too much glass for a sport compact car. and a real Celica has a motor that ends with 'GTE'

That's a pretty funny comment considering previous gen Celica's have ALSO had base Camry motors (ala 3S-FE and 5S-FE). Not to mention the only Celica to have a 'GTE' was the GT4 (aka All-trac). Good luck finding one of those.
I don't mind the tC having the base Camry engine since it's cost effective for Toyota to use the same power plant in several platform (ie 2AZ-FE = tC, Camry, Solara, RAV4). I just wish they bumped the power output a little more (6hp over the Camry doesn't cut it).
touringcamry 08-22-2005, 12:07 AM tC = Toyota Celica ?? -- it's odd that the other Scion models start with x, xA and xB
The tC does share platform with the Caldina GT4, which uses the same mechanicals as the Celica GT4, so it may not be that hard to implement the 3SGTE in there. Only thing is that that Caldina GT4 comes with automatic transmission only, which would be a turn off for those people who would even be interested in a 3SGTE tC.

silver04rollas 08-22-2005, 12:40 AM TC does not share it's platform with Caldina. It uses the platform of the Toyota Avensis that is available in Europe and Japan. It is a midsized sedan. Ofcourse, it is no secret TC engine and transmission, gear ratios etc. come from a Toyota Camry. It has no relation with G series performance cars like Celica (2ZZ-GE), GT4 and Caldina (3S GTE), Altezza (3S-GE) and I can guarantee any money there will be not be a 250 HP Scion atleast for a few years since there is no way it will cost less than $23,00 - $25,000 and Scions are supposed to cost less than $18000 to make it affordable for young buyers who have a budget. Maybe, 3 -4 years down the road when it becomes economically more feasible to price it around $18k.

Tideland Prius 08-22-2005, 01:41 AM They can't call it the xC. Volvo has the XC90 and surely they'll have something to say about that.

only crappy North american Celica's were graced the 5S-FE and in some terrible cases the 7A-FE, where they could have had the SS-II 3S-GE or the GT4 3S-GTE, which had a nice oh say about 15 year run under the hood of the celica
SEXICAN 08-22-2005, 05:46 PM I'm not sure why you are trying to dog on the Tc at all and saying that the celica is "wayyyy better" The damn scion is more of a toyota than a toyota is a toyota.

Caldina shares the Toyota Avensis platform :)
Deuce 08-23-2005, 03:36 AM ^^where's your documentation of that?
cuz when avensis debuted, toyota UK bragged about how it was an all new platform. Same as Toyota JP.
Diablo MR2 08-29-2005, 05:16 PM I doubt toyota will bring it to the US if they make one.

Aside from that, the cars share the same wheel base, 2700 mm and engines, 1AZ-FSE. The 2.0L natural aspirated 4WD versions also share the same transmission. At the minimum, the final drive and the gear ratios are the same, if nothing else. Found these specs at Toyota japan web site.

Why not...? the 4th Gen 3S-GE with VVT-i (no Lift) found on the Altezza and some MR-2 could pump out 210 HP so it wouldn't be at all unprobable that a 2.4 lt engine with a G head and Lift could reach the 250 HP mark
