2006 echo/yaris/vitz sedan

Since i can't read Japanese I am not sure what it says, but I read on another forum (which I can't remember right now) that this is the rumored sedan that the US and Canada will be getting to replace the echo sedan.

The front does look like a slightly toned down version of the new Yaris, so this will very likely be your replacement for the Echo.

I like the look of it. A huge improvement over the current Echo. I hope the same will happen for the Yaris Verso.

It seems like Toyota is trying to establish a "design theme" for their cars....
that thing looks like the avalon and most likely the camry too. Which is good in my opinion.

The front grill looks like it came off a Mazda3 Sport...

Whenever the wraps comes off the Echo Sedan replacement, it will either be completely new like the hatchback, or most likely based on the VIOS (Baby Corolla) which uses Echo underpinnings...

I thought the Echo sedan was to be discontinued due to low sales, and only the new Yaris HB was to be brought into North America. :confused:

I know we up here in Canada are getting the new Yaris HB, since I take delivery of mine on October 17th...

There is no news of a sedan replacement up here...

I can't speak for the US, because I don't know...As for the what the sedan may look like, this is only speculation based on the thread starter...I just don't think if there is a sedan coming it will be the Belta...

The interior looks a lot cheaper than Japan and europe versions.

I would love a 3-door except I hate the center mounted gauge pod. It looks stupid and you shouldn't have to turn your head to read gauges.

I guess it works out great for the people I see leaning over the center arm rest while they drive.....

You don't turn your head to see the gauges. Do you dip your head to see the gauges in front of you?

Try it out. It really is easier to look right and slightly down than to look all the way down. With the centre gauge setup, the road's still in your peripheral vision hence you can react faster if something gets in your way. Also, it's easier to focus (I'm guessing that's for older people) as it's further away.

I was skeptical at first but then I drove an Echo. It really isn't that bad.

That interior is more modern. If only it had a large screen as well, it would be perfect.

But what is up with the gauges? Can you switch between the two verions?

Maybe, like other Toyotas in the past, it will come with a tach if you get the manuel tranny.

I know our 2006 Yaris in Canada gets tachometer standard across the board...In Japan/Europe there are also 3 engine choices, 1.0, 1.3, and 1.5, whereas we only get the 1.5...

The Speedo is angled toward the driver and falls directly in your line of sight. On my 04 hatch, it is completely intuitive, and after experiencing this, you actually find it wierd driving cars with the speedo lower behind the steering wheel...

In Europe we get 4 engine choices: 1.0 (3 cyl.), 1.3, 1.5 and 1.4 diesel. I don't know if they will add some more diesels. The 2.2D-CAT would be cool to have in the Yaris :whatwhat:

you guys get the 1.0L 3-cyl in teh yaris/vitz? i thought it was only available in the upcoming aygo, and that it was a collaboration btwn those three companies (toyota, renault, and i think peugot)

Lasse D it does have a large screen just on a different trim level. if u go to the bar below the picture and click on the third block from the left you can select pictures of three different interiors and one of them has a screen right above the HVAC controls.

Thank you. I actually like the upper interior the most. The middle panel is more dynamic without the large screen.

I don't know if it's the same super lightweight 1.0 engine from the Aygo. But it will be 3cyl.
It is the 1.4 diesel which is developed together with PSA (Peugeot and Citroën) that goes into the Aygo. The 1.4diesel for the Yaris is quite new and is also the one you find in the BMW Mini D (In a slightly modified version).

But I don't even know which one of the diesels they will use in the new Yaris.

Besides, I think the dash looks stupid.

Well the guages in my Prius are in front (near the base of the windshield) but slightly to the right. It's not as bad as the centre mounted gauges. I guess we're just used to having gauges in front of us. I did find it odd to look down at the gauges in the Camry when I drive it once in a while. It used to be second nature to me but after using the Prius, it feels odd.

So I guess it's just getting used to stuff =)

I prefer the Echo's speedo location.

It has 3 advantages

-The steering wheel never blocks it
-The gauge position keep you from taking your eyes off the road. because your side periferal vision is greater than your up/down periferal vision, I can read the odometer and still see 100% of the road in front while I am doing it.
-Your passenger *cough* navigator can reach and reset the trip meter without interfering the driver

That was pretty good actually. You're japanese ain't that bad, but that won't be the new Yaris/Vitz sedan. That's actually similar to the Corolla, but it ain't a corolla, but it's in the same class size with it. :)

The start button is kinda like the one on the Prius, and Avalon. You have a key fob and you either insert it in a slot or it senses it in your pocket. All you have to do is put your foot on the brake and push the button. This can also unlock the doors with one touch, from the outside, if equipped with the sensing fob.

Yeah what drunken_panda said. The Vitz will be available with the Smart Key System. I doubt it will be available here in Canada.

hmm.. all the new cars seem to be following the Avalon's type of styling.. does Toyota have a T-Finesse thing goin like Lexus L-Finesse :confused:

Of course it doesn't feel natural. Years of looking up-and-down makes it tough to break that bad habit. And everyone who first drives an Echo/Yaris feels this way....at least for the first few days. Imagine how weird it must feel to hop into a right-hand-drive car with a stick and then drive away. You'll be cursing it the whole way for the first few days until you become accustomed to driving that way.

Fast forward a month later and you'll wonder why the rest of the world isn't doing the same config as Toyota.

Agreed. I love it in the middle. It's so much easier to refocus on the road. I wish all cars were built this way. My next car will probably be a step up and there are virtually no other cars with that kind of configuration in the higher end cars....:disappoin

I don't get you guys, must be a Canadian thing.

Try the Prius =). It's gauges are slightly to the right from the direct view of the driver.
