I'm considering getting a new alarm in the near future. Many ppl have recommended Compustar.org. Their immediate competition would be;

I'd like to hear what ya'lls opinions are? What features are worth it and which ones are a waste of money?

My opinion would be get a alarm it would be a basic alarm with keyless entry, glass break sensor, micro-wave sensor and started disable with anti carjacking features. When you install it make sure you put 1 siren in a obvious spot and another hidden (ie. in a quarter panel) I would avoid putting one in the cab but it's possible. I find the pager option of very little use if someone is breaking into my car who cares if its through a window or a door?
Here's a alarm story:
Friend of mine was at home and someone broke into his car so he goes outside with a bat. He gives the guy a whack puts the bat down hits him a couple more times and then calls the cops. What do you think happened? they both got arrested. The cop told my friend he would have been better off just letting the guy take his stuff or just yell out the window and hope the thief would run off.
It's your money but I'm not sure about where you live but for me you get the same insurance discount with a $100 or $500 alarm.

I love when they show a picture of the alarm system on sites ect..
they only show you 1/10 if any of the wiring involved to install it.

Dude, you totally misunderstands the whole concept behind pager alarms.

You're right, who cares if it's through a window or a door?

Imagine your gf is getting screwed by some guy, do you want to get notified right when it happens. Or in the morning when you see her? :-?

Sure she screams, but put a tape on her mouth shut her up easy. Pager is like her having a cellphone, she gets to call you when she's in trouble.

And your friend would've been better off just to scare that thief instead of *attacking* him with a bat.

I've already got a basic alarm. I'm not really a believer in basic alarms either, that's why I'm considering investing alittle more money in the above alarms in hopes that it may actually be of some use and not simply used for remote entry. I know an alarm isn't infoulable, but next to putting flame throwers under the car, this is the only viable option to try and protect my car.
Car theft in T.O. is very lucrative and has only gotten worse. I've heard of really crazy stories and been a victim and even culprit of auto theft myself and know how much protection I can realistically expect from an alarm.

If I could have the ultimate alarm, I'd have LoJack, kill switch to every vital artery, multiple power supplies, numerous sirens, cell phone controls etc...and to spite, a cute puppy in the car knowing that my alarm was that badass that noboy could get within 10ft of my car without me knowing. Only in my dreams though :)

I never thought of it that way thanks for clearing the smog from my brain :hammer:

The only reason I think "screamers" with all the bell and wistles are a waste of money is no matter what it alerts you to funny noise it makes will not stop a professional thief (as you stated).
I've seen cars w/ alarms jacked up on blocks, engine and stereo completely removed.
In Ny corollas are the 2nd most stolen vehicle which is why I installed a basic alarm. Another reason is to stop the average stereo thief and a little insurance discount.
I hope you or someone you know is going to intall that for you?
I've heard many stories of install places keeping codes to cars and stealing them afterwards.

I can throw a brick from 12 Ft.

All the best

any body heard of those x-10 cams... ya know they make some for security oriented stores... or guys that wanna set up a little spy cam by the shower... you catch my drift.... well i had one of my bikes stolen out of my garage 3 months ago because my dumbass of a brother left it open... but any ways its a long ass story.... i dont live in the getto or nothing i actually live in a neighborhood that is fairly "high-class"... which im guessing makes it a "hot-spot" for pussy's who cant get a job or learn how to earn their own shit. well ever since these bitches stole one of my bikes i keep my others in my room... the only thing is that i cant get my car to fit... yeah ha ha ... muchless in the garage... (damn parents new cars) (and dirtbikes)... i have a "standard" car alarm... (installed @ a "Mother Window Tint & Alarm" shop) so i doubt anyone has the freq. codes, but since my bike has gotten stolen i havent nessercary made friends with my neighbors... loudnoises (fuckers coming over to my house thinkn their bad-asses letting the tires loose in front of my psycotic mormon neighbors) they friggn crazy... so im kinda also worried about vandolisim so that when it does occour or some one does steal my "soon-to be system" i will have hard-shit to show to the FO-PO's... ( cought on tape ) i was of course thinking about gettin the kind that had "night-vison" and a SLP video tape recorder... i just think that its not the greatest of plans.. besides the fact that it would only protect when i am at home and all.... unless i got some sorta cam in the car... but then they would just break it once they got in... help i need some good ideas...

actually... the X-10 cameras are not that bad quality. i've never owned one, but i did work for a home security alarm company P/T last year and they sold the units. depending on how far your garage is from your VCR... you can have a wireless connection setup up pretty easily. just mount the camera by the object being monitored, hook the video control box to your VCR - and you're all set.

the newer cameras have a sensor that only turns on when there is continuous movement for 5 sec. it sends a signal back to your VCR and turns it onto RECord... saving wasted tape time.

i was able to see the quality of the camera as one was hooked up to a computer for demo. it's not fluid motions but it transmits fast frames so does look like movement.
