the xB towed behind an RV

In November I'll buy an xB 5 speed. It will be towed behind my motorhome frequently. I want to know if the odometer will continue to register miles while being towed. If so, is there a fuse or some other way I can keep those miles from registering. My towed vehicles typically show about 15K of towed mileage per year but only about 10K of driven miles. Obviously I use up my warranty well before I should. If not a fuse, any other suggestions?

two or four wheel tow dolly.. buy one. the front wheels register the mileage I believe.

Yup. Either if it's in neutral or not, it still registers the miles you've gone. Just lift up the front wheels and then you'll be fine. :)

Thanks for your replies but the reason I chose a manual was to be able to tow 4 down. Having to fuss with a tow dolly is often a pain in campgrounds and a clear pain at home. Somehow there has to be a way to "disable" the odometer for those times I'm towing. Certainly the xB would come to a dead stop if some odometer connection became faulty and the thing quit registering. Would it?

By towing it and disconnecting the ODO, you are still putting miles on the car. Suspension, tires, any other moving parts besides the tranny and engine are moving. Your engine miles will (obviously) be a lot less by disconnecting it, but there is still wear and tear on the vehicle. I'm guessing you are doing this for resale value down the road? I say leave it alone and just state when selling it later that is was a towed vehicle and try to document the engine miles as best as possible.

You're right and that's what I've done with my current "toad." Since I keep a vehicle for many more years than is typical it probably won't matter a lick in resale value. I've just always wondered if "would be" buyers would find it credible to declare the engine miles are fewer than the odometer reports. But, as you have stated, it probably isn't worth the trouble.
