wontonjohnny 10-04-2002, 02:47 AM hey guys im just getting into car audio and i have a question about wiring
ok so i have a 4 ohm SVC sub and a mono amp 150 at 2 ohms
is there some way to get my sub to run at 2 ohms?
the amp has 2 pairs of speaker output but it is a true mono amp
how would this work?

DrtySthV6SE 10-04-2002, 10:11 AM not unless you got two subs with four ohm can you get two ohms. and i dont recommend doing it like that picture. id say just bridge it so it will run four.
Yea that sounds really sketchy esp. your sub is SVC. :-?
Bridging will give it more power, right?
DrtySthV6SE 10-04-2002, 10:23 AM yes but it will still run at 4 ohms since the sub is 4
wontonjohnny 10-04-2002, 12:42 PM can you bridge a mono amp?
wontonjohnny 10-04-2002, 12:45 PM are there any negitave effects for bridging?
There are no negative effects of bridging, but what you've shown will NOT work. The transistors in the amplifier don't work that way with the +'s and -'s. You should just use the outermost + and - terminals to bridge the amp, otherwise, you may damage the amp and/or sub.
Also, you don't "bridge" a mono amp, you "load" it down. So if a mono amp is rated at 150W @ 2-ohm, you can have two 4-ohm subs in parallel.

wontonjohnny 10-04-2002, 11:35 PM hey luc if i plug it into the two outside plugs like you said, what will be the output for this situation?
88 LE 10-05-2002, 05:48 AM ok so i have a 4 ohm SVC sub and a mono amp 150 at 2 ohms is there some way to get my sub to run at 2 ohms?
Nope.
If you want to run at 2ohms you have to:
1. Buy another 4 ohm SVC sub and wire both subs in parallel.
2. Buy a 4 ohm DVC sub and wire the coils in parallel.
3. Buy a 1 ohm DVC sub and wire the coils in series. I've never seen a 1 ohm DVC sub though, so i'm just using it as an example.
the amp has 2 pairs of speaker output but it is a true mono amp
So does my Linear Power 8002. One of the sets of outputs has no wires going to it (I took the bottom cover off the amp and looked at it).
88 LE 10-05-2002, 05:57 AM hey luc if i plug it into the two outside plugs like you said, what will be the output for this situation?
75 watts.
You want to use the left + (positive) and right - (negative) terminal on the amp. This applies to most mono amps and stereo amps (running in bridged mode), unless you have a amp with some weird wiring.
Anyways there should be a label or something on the amp that tells you which terminals to hook the speaker up to.
Like 88LE said, your amp will only give out about 75W when you bridge it. Most manufacturers are likely to post their rated power from a 2-ohm point of view, so when consumers see that larger number, then it becomes a selling point. Also, look for other ratings which include a 20-20kHz frequency response. Again, manufacturers can post something like 500 watts @ 1kHz, but that's not the true power output throughout the entire band.

wontonjohnny 10-05-2002, 01:29 PM damn thats weak... my sub is rated for 350w rms(12" infinity kappa perfect). i think im gonna need a new amp
wontonjohnny 10-05-2002, 05:52 PM ok seeing how i can only get 75w
what are some tips on getting the whole 75w when wiring.
i have a 4awg amp kit is there anything else i should get?

4AWG power cable is way overkill for that amp. It doesn't hurt to use it though.
75w/12v = 6.25 amps. P (power) = I (current) x E (voltage).

Some good rca cables. You don't have buy the $80 ones unless you want to, but on the otherhand don't skimp and buy some cheapo $5 ones.
EasyE 10-08-2002, 08:00 PM rca's didnt come in that amp kit?
wontonjohnny 10-09-2002, 01:07 AM yeah the kit did come with a nice rca cable with the remote attached
so i was running all the wires today still waiting for my amp. i couldnt find the hole through the firewall.
anyone know where it is on a 92 camry?
DrtySthV6SE 10-09-2002, 10:42 AM i ran my power wire (if that is what you are talking about through the firewall) under the car with some zip ties. Just dont run it around your axles or something.
There was a hole already there on the left side of my trunk under the carpet and some piece of board that i ran the wire up through to get to the amp. i had to drill no holes.
wunderboy 10-09-2002, 12:42 PM I wouldnt recomend running the power wire under the car, or outside it at all for that matter. Hit one speedbump too hard and strip it, then all you need is for the wire to touch water for a short, or any part of the car and your gonna have a problem.
just IMO though...
DrtySthV6SE 10-09-2002, 04:15 PM i see what you are saying i did not want to "ghetto" it up under the car.
there is no way for it to touch the road or anything else i have prob 20 ties and i am running it through the actual frame.

dont think there is one
had to drill a hole for mine
