Wow, am I seeing things correctly? It actually has 4-wheel disc brakes!!

It looks like a GMC Sierra. For Toyota's sake, I hope that the new Tundra and the '07 GMT 900 arent the same thing. GM and Toyota did it on the Matrix/Vibe, I hope that they dont do the same again.
I would hate for the new Tundra to use GM components, especially if it has rear discs made by GM. GM has never been able to make a rear disc brake that holds up.

^ Highly doubtful. The new San Antonio plant is being built specifically for the new Tundra. Why would Toyota want to work with one of their top competitors anyway (the full-size truck market is too lucrative to share profits with GM)?

One thing is sure: Toyota needs to think ahead and predict what their rivals will do to their full size trucks when their redesign comes. They need to come out with guns blazing, and if that means massive horsepower, torque, towing, and payload capacities, then so be it.

Yeah baby, now that's what I'm talking about. Now with this new information who wants to do another chat?

Cap'nNUMMI is the only joint venture GM/Toyota have, and I really don't like it, as GM just takes advantage of Toyota. The new Tundra (thankfully) is ALL Toyota, and let's hope for a diesel. Someone is going to hurt.

Thats what Im asking. Why would Toyota want to partner with one of their rivals? I think Toyota should break all ties with GM.

Is anyone here a pilot?

We could fly over Toyota's Arizona testing ground ... :D

After the summer is over for hot weather testing/interior material heat exposure testing, I'm sure they'll start doing some cold weather testing in Alaska, the Northeast, and Canada.

I sure hope the new Tundra will have a floor shifter option like the new F150 and Nissan Titan. I could just picture it, a roomy interior with lexus like quality and design and my favorite, floor shifter. The steering wheel shifter looks cheap in my eyes.

I hate column-mounted shifters. The shifter, no matter if its auto or manual tranny, belongs on the FLOOR.
I know that it takes away some floor space but column-mounted shifters are just so awkward, in my opinion.
Also, dont be so sure that the '07 Tundra wont come with a diesel option. If Ford offers one in the F-150 (something they are rumored to be offering in '07) Toyota just might follow suit and do the same. I know that a lot of 1/2 ton truck buyers would really like the fuel economy and low-end torque of a diesel.

I don't understand why everyone wants a diesel. If you are hauling a horse trailer or a fifth wheel on a daily basis then sure, diesel is the way to go. But for a daily driver, the maintenance and upkeep is extremely expensive, they take forever to warm up (big negative here in Colorado), they stink, and they are loud. I've also heard that the epa is getting ready to start getting alot tougher on their emissions. Unless my lifestyle drasticaly changes and I am hauling massive loads on a regular basis, I'll stick with a gas engine. I am all over the Idea of a 5.4 liter Toyota produced V8.

The newer diesels dont stink, and arent all that loud. Go to www.sr5.net (http://www.sr5.net) and ask the people on that forum why they switched their truck over to a disel and you will get your answer.
People who drive diesels have low-end torque and fuel economy that gas engines drivers can only dream of.
When you can have over 300 hp and over 500 lb-ft of torque below 2,000 rpm and be still getting 20 mpg in a 3/4 ton truck, thats impressive.
If Toyota offered a turbo diesel 4-banger in the Tacoma, Id opt for it.

The biggest draw back of diesels I think is idle. The idles are soooo rough. Maybe Toyota could work around that though. Also the warm-up time like previously mentioned. But the power, ohhhhh that sweet power.
Sorry about the sentence fluency, it's late.

No doubt the power would be great to have, but the guys I know who have bought powerstrokes and cummins end up buying a second vehicle to commute in because the maintenance cost are so much higher.

Bakemono
09-11-2005, 08:35 PM
No offense, but that doesnt make much sense. When you consider the purchase price, maintenance and insurance costs of a 2nd vehicle, you really arent saving much money.
Ive thought about getting an old Corolla but in the end Id be spending the same amount of money either way. :dunno:

not that it matters, but toyota is supposed to be having a big truck come out, i guess from the looks of it, its the 2007 tundra. all i know is that the lift installers have installed a truck lift (holds more wieght then a regular lift) to hold a big truck. could this be it?

I work at for and we have a truck part of our shop, their lifts hold twice as much wieght then the regular lifts that i use.

I would love a diesel Tundra myself. If one had been available when I bought my Tundra, I certainly would have gone for it.

Id much prefer a diesel to a hybrid and with the technology Toyota has in their Australian Hilux models as well as with their Hino trucks, I think it would be a very nice engine.

maybe you guys don't know it, but toyota already offers some very nice, quiet, powerful and clean diesel engines in most of their european spec trucks and suv's and even in some of their cars too, here in the dominican republic most of the toyota vehicles we get are the european specs, for example the toyota land cruiser we get here comes with one of the best diesel engines i have ever seen, with an exhaust note that denotes an amazing power plant, we also get the hilux wich is the european version of the tacoma with a diesel, and also the land cruiser prado wich is the european version of the lexus gx470, now all of those cars that i mentioned, also come with gas engines, but the diesels are more popular due mainly to the fuel economy.

Wow!!! Looks like an American truck of some kind.GM and Ford look out!!!! Btw, we in Jamaica get Toyotas diesel engined Hiluxes and LandCruiser Prados. As a matter of fact these vehicles have been replaced by newer and slightly bigger models!!!

The next Tundra will be huge instead of a 7/8's full size as some critics have called it. A product rep I met at Scion nights last year said 75% of all the service bays at current dealerships will not be able to fit the new Tundra. They're building a new truck center in my area dedicated to the truck and SUV line.

Maybe it's not really a Tundra at all, but instead an Avalanche/Ridgeline copy!

When I was in the country of Yemen, I rented a 2003 Toyota LandCruiser Turbo Diesel I-6. Its faster than the V8 LC. I timed 0-100km/h in 9 seconds flat with my stopwatch. Should be around high 8s 0-60mph tests. Its soo smooth and so quiet you cant even tell its a diesel untill you hit over 3500rpm where the turbo spools up and black smoke comes faintly from the exhaust pipe. It was an automatic, whish they had a 5spd version at the time but the bastards rented it out. I drove about 250miles and the needle moved slightly from the full mark. Note, alot of uphill driving + my heavy right foot.
