Note also that America bears this alone, bolstered only by its immense
productive powers. No other country has offered or given any aid of any
kind.

Could any other country on earth so quickly fix this sort of thing alone?

Truly, a tribute to the American system that the rest of the world hates so
much.

Uh, where's the UN? Where's the offer of aid from all the European
countries? I may be wrong but I haven't heard anything yet.

Well, the aid from the Venezuelan government wasn't
reported on Fox, so you probably haven't heard of
it. If the religious right has its way, that aid
might be held up by the murder of Chavez. The millions
from Saudi Arabia and Kuwait are notoriously absent
from the Fox reports as well, so are the offers of
money and materiel from Canada, France, UK, Vietnam,
Germany, and Egypt. And the aircraft being shipped
here from Russia. And the engineering crews from the
Netherlands. I guess none of these could exist, since
all the haters on the right-wing haven't heard of them.

I guess as long as shares in Exxon Mobil are up, the
neocons are happy, and can ignore the generosity of
the rest of the world. After thumbing their noses at
the world for so long, they have no qualms about pissing
on fofeign aid, or even lying that it's not coming in.

Perhaps in THAT story the looted goods were a matter of survival, but there
is no shortage of people looting TV sets. The local WalMart has been looted
of all of its firearms, and somebody is taking pot-shots at the military
helicopters that have come in to provide support.

I heard a report that a Winn Dixie store was being emptied. Six or eight cop
cars showed up to guard the Sports Authority in the same shopping center.
The SA store had a large Gun Department. The cops recognized the difference
in taking food to survive, and taking guns so people could take other
people's food.

Not enough to give any accurate quotes, but I heard yesterday that Germany
and France were sending stuff.

We can't expect much from most of the world because most of the world is a
recipient of our aid, and they would merely be giving back the stuff that we
give to them. I suppose there could be a symbolic measure to NOT take the
aid we give so we could use it here instead. But, Singapore and the Indian
Ocean Countries are hardly in a position to give us any aid, that leaves
Europe, and in Europe the aid will come from Britian, France, GErmany,
Spain - maybe - and Italy.

Old? I'm pretty sure Scotty is a twelve-year-old. He
doesn't have the intelligence, sense, or education of
anything more advanced.

This is a sad thing indeed.

Listening to the BBC tonight, they reported there were a number of gun and
ammo stores looted; cleaned right out. Same for Wal-Mart and other stores
that sell guns.

And the TV sets, and the Nikes, and the CD's, etc. Definitely stuff needed
to survive, right?

Makes me feel ashamed to be an American; when the going gets tough, we
turn ON each other instead of TO each other.

One of the stories on the BBC: a man was sitting on his porch, when three
youths came up to him. He had a generator running, and one of the youths
pulled a switchblade and told him they wanted the generator.

They kinda left in a hurry when he pulled his .357M and fired a couple
shots in the air!

Sorry, mon, don't do Fox. But I didn't hear it on NPR or the BBC either.

Now, I guess you don't know me very well. I think if the Oil Co's show a
significant profit for this quarter, they should be fined excessively and
the fine turned into a rebate for consumers of gasoline, or to offset the
heating season. As Laissez-Faire as I am for business, Gasoline is
somewhat of a necessity in this country and 'opportunities' should neot be
exploited to a large degree. If it were something like scented candles or
baby bunting it would be a different story, but not gasoline.

Shots in the air. That was his first mistake.

Sorry to say it, but I'd have to support the guy sitting on his porch should
a young thug turn up with bullet holes in his ass, or anywhere else.

I do!

Little shits deserved whatever they got, thinking they could just go up to
someone and take something. This isn't the freakin' Wild West here; you'd
think after 200 years there'd be SOME kind of 'civilization' .But I guess
not.

Instead of taking Plasma TVs and Nikes, why didn't they just loot a
generator while they were taking that large screen TV?

Yeh...well a guy's gotta get lucky 'sometime'... :)

What really bothers me is to get a 'setup' like that, post, THEN
find out that someone had posted 'your quip' ten minutes before
