Hey guys... I wanted to ask the pros...
What can I do to make my system heard from further away?
I've heard rolling down the rear windows helps...
What else can I do?
Thanks

Get 18"s, some big amps, and VLF (very low frequency) rumbling "music" that will make your internal organs hurt also. Why do you want potential thieves to hear your subs?

theres so many ways to get your subs louder. the best way to do this is to getted custom ported box. enclosures make a big diffrence on the characteristics of the subs. a ported box could increase sound by +3bd. but beware ported boxes are alot more complicated than the basic sealed boxes. Some subs are not design to handle this box. Tuning the sub sonic filter on your amp is also a must. deadening your trunk help alot also. also the position of how you face the box helps too. I only had one ported box for my JLw3 and i switch it back to the original bandass box. to boom for me.

Get a custom built bandpass box

Larger subs and lower frequencies tend to carry more. As do really sloppy/less punchy subs. Of course this is kinda a generalization, and not gospel. My 6 10" CompVR's can be heard pretty far away with the windows down, but they still have a lot of punch to them... :D

With a Jigsaw, cut holes the same size as the subs directly into your trunklid, and drill holes for the screws around the circles then install the subs, and presto! you got yourself a custom sub box that will be heard from further distances than your previous one. 8)

More inches = more people hearing your stuff  definately

you can hear my 15 in a sealed way better than you could here my rockford 12 in a ported (same amp for both)

Just spend the money and buy very good quality subs with dual coil, there's allot of great brand names nowadays: Lanza, JL's, JBL, Pyle, MTX and get the spcs for the sub and make a box according to the sub's specs.. That will make it the ultimate box..

Are you retarded? Do you realize how much sound you would loose from just letting it sit there in the lid. That wouldnt even be a box, it could, but there would be too much of a vent. Believe me, putting a sub into your trunk lid is not the way to go. My friend used 3 subs that way and got worse sound than you would get with one of his subs in a Bandpass Box. If you want sound just get a bandpass box. Mainly a Triple Space Q-Logic box. otherwise, just build yourself a custom box, it isnt all that hard.

bandpass = more volume but muddy sound.

sealed = more punch but not as loud. cleaner sound.

Generally easier to construct the enclosure, too.

Ported can often give you insane SPL gains, depending on the driver(s) used, and they're tuned to a specific frequency. Not that it won't play at other freqs, it will just be loudest at it's tuned frequency.

But there comes a point when you might want something that sounds good and isn't just loud.... That's when you get a little crazy. I would know nothing of the sort about that, though ;)

Wanna do it for free? If your subs are in the trunk, turn them around, so they point toward the back of the car. The sound waves will reflect off of the trunk and overlap as they come back into the cabin. This is an old trick that can make your subs twice as loud.
