I've been looking at a 1993 T100 with 166K miles. It's a 4x4 with power everything, and air conditioning. Seems to be in excellent shape (except a few scratches inside the bed). Owner wants $5500 for it, but I'm a little leary of spending that much on a 12 year old truck with relatively high mileage.

I've asked around and some say it's about right while others tell me no way. I thought I'd ask here since most seem to know quite a lot about the t100's. What's a fair price for this truck? Also, given regular maintenance how many miles can this engine handle [ball park]?

Thanks in advance for your thoughts.

First question is what engine does it have in it? Second is it an extended cab? Third is there any rust?

I own a 1993 T100 with 175K miles. It is a 3.0L V6 regular cab, 2wd. I paid $6,500 for it in 1998 when it only had 60K miles on it.

A 1993 T100 with 166K on it isn't worth much more than 2 to 3K. Mine is worth less than that. I love Toyotas. But the problem with buying a used one is that people don't try to sell them for what they are worth. They sell them for what they want get out of them.

Look up the book value on www.nada.com (http://www.nada.com) or kellybluebook's website.

Also, look on autotrader.com and see if you can find a newer one for about that price or close to it.

I bought a 93 T100 4x4 in May with 81k miles. It sounds like you're looking at an SR5, mine is a base model, only extra is an automatic transmission. I had to replace a head gasket, timing belt, tune-up, fluids, and a few other minor things. I've got $5600 in it, 3900 purchase and 1700 in repairs, Unfortunately I wasn't in a position to comparison shop for the needed repairs and paid retail. I'm sure I could have saved some money if I would have been able to shop around.

The 166k miles wouldn't scare me if the truck has been maintained. I would be sure to see what type of upcoming maintenance you might be looking at and factor it into your purchase price. Timing belts are every 90k miles. I shopped around for several months for before I bought mine. It's tough to find a T100 that's has reasonable mileage and has been well maintained. In my opinion, $5500 sounds a little high, unless the truck has no upcoming maintenance and has been well maintained. Anything less than 4k wouild be a reasonable deal I would think.
