The Land Cruiser has a 4.7L V8 with 275 hp(sae standard)
Wonder if it will still sell?
Bakemono 09-23-2005, 05:31 PM I dont think it will. Supposedly Toyota is going to stop making the Land Cruiser sometime soon.
Besides, whos going to buy a $50,000 Toyota???
Cap'n
Tideland Prius 09-24-2005, 12:48 PM another updated eh? nice wheels though.
$50,000? Is that in US dollars? Cause a Sequoia here is $60,000+ before taxes and frankly if I had a choice, I'd take the Land Cruiser over the Sequoia.
CACressida 09-24-2005, 01:00 PM You'd be surprised how many people buy a 50g Toyota. Thats all they drive in the middle east. When people sit in the seat of the LandCruiser, they automatically fall inlove with the seat position that no other fullsize SUV can match. The TLC is very comfortable, nice looking, and it can tackle rocks like nothing. And one thing that really attracts me is the craftsmanship. I know and seen so many LC with lots of miles and they run like new. And with the added hp and torque of the newer models, its not that slow either...well, i'll be the judge of that when I drive it.
Bakemono 09-24-2005, 02:44 PM Yes, Tideland, thats in US dollars.
With the fuel pricing being the way they are and considering that the next-generation Seqouia will probably be a full-size, I just dont see Toyota keeping the LC in the US market.
I could see them making it for the middle east, Africa and Australia, but not the US. With gas at $3 a gallon, full-size SUV sales in the US are pretty much dead.

silver04rollas 09-24-2005, 05:18 PM Land Cruisers over there (middle east) are very cheap and much much watered down. The Land Cruiser/LX470 here is a very upscale SUV with all the luxury items you can find in any of it's competitors and the motor is bigger. They have smaller motors, very very simple interior with only basic gadgets etc. and most of them are white in color...LOL.

Tideland Prius 09-24-2005, 07:21 PM Hmm but the Sequoia doesn't exude that image that the Land Cruiser created for itself. We don't even get it in Canada. Also, there are many variations of the Land Cruiser. There's even a smaller version called the Prado. (Sometimes called the Land Cruiser in that case the "real" Land Cruiser is called the "Amazon")
Bakemono 09-24-2005, 07:24 PM True, but the Sequoia shares a lot of parts with the Tundra, so it saves cost. Thats why the Sequoia will survive but the LC probably will be dropped. :dunno:
The LC is a legend and I'll be sad to see it go, but thats progress for ya!

silver04rollas 09-25-2005, 02:00 AM The Lexus GX470 is a highly luxurious and upscale Prado Land Cruiser. The Lexus GX470 in Canada is slightly more upscale than the Land Cruiser. Land Cruiser/LX470 will soon be discontinued anyway.

Tideland Prius 09-25-2005, 02:02 AM I thought the GX was a Lexus version of the 4Runner lol.
situman 09-25-2005, 11:56 AM The Land Cruiser isn't going away. It's being brought back to its original roots. Did we already forget the soon to be released FJ Cruiser?
Bakemono 09-25-2005, 02:33 PM The FJ Cruiser is being built on the 4Runner platform, so in effect the LC is going away. The FJ Cruiser is more 4Runner than LC.

HoboJoe 09-25-2005, 02:49 PM Sad to see the Land Cruiser possibly going.:disappoin I love the luxurious yet tough looks of it. And the seats are to die for.
silver04rollas 09-25-2005, 05:57 PM No GX is a souped up and upscale version of the European/Australian Land Cruiser Prado.
I thought the GX was a Lexus version of the 4Runner lol.
TRDcrazy 09-25-2005, 06:39 PM ur both right. the LC prado, GX, and 4runner r all built on the same platform.
Aussie Toyota 09-25-2005, 06:48 PM anybody who wants to get rid of landcrusiers is kidding themelves , they are the heart and soul of toyota

when it comes down to it, its just a hunk of steel. but anyways, it really doesnt what platform its built on. It's what they name it and its capabilities.
Bakemono 09-25-2005, 09:26 PM Its not like the 4Runner is a slouch in terms of off-road capability either. :dunno:

Bakemono 09-25-2005, 10:01 PM You cant keep the same thing around forever. You have to continuously update and improve your models and sometimes that means killing vehicles that have the history of the LC.
The fact is that the LC has gotten away from it's roots and has become a humongo luxury vehicle. If they gave us the LandCruiser Prado, that would be one thing, but the current LC is not something you would buy to drive off-road on a regular basis. (at least I wouldnt pay $50,000 for something and then beat the pi*s out of it)
The FJ Cruiser will bring the LC concept back to its roots, to where it should have always been.

84Cressida 09-25-2005, 10:09 PM Toyota has been updating the LC every year (curtain airbags etc), plus I heard its going to get redesgined for 07/08.
Bakemono 09-25-2005, 10:18 PM It just got redesigned, look at those pics. The grille is a little bit different.
Cap'n
CACressida 09-26-2005, 03:38 AM The 2006 LC is just refreshed with new combined headlight, fender lights. The grill got more Tonka like, and the rear lenses on the tailights changed. The 2UZ-FE got more ponies too with the help of VVT-I. The LandCruiser will not be discontinued because Toyota sells 80% LandCruisers of all their models in the middle east. They come in many trim levels. from base (GX, GX-R both have the I-6 found in the 97LC, GX-R is luxuriously appointed but still considered as a base), which is still nice, to luxury (VX-R which is like a USDM LX470 and has an optional 5spd manual or 5spd auto bolted to teh UZ. And VX-R Limited which has every gizmo you can think of including air stands that can hold up your car so you can fix a flat, eliminating the jack.), which surpasses the USDM LX470, to Sport modesl. LandCruiser GX-J. And then Toyota has the tough LandCruiser pickups and short wheelbase LandCruiser 70-75 series. The Prado is another strong seller in the Middle East. The LC u see isnt going to die. It'll still be with us but Toyota will be killing the LX470 because its going to be introducing the all new JX540 based on the redesigned Sequoia. But I do think that after the las generation, which is the next redesign after this, Toyota will be killing the famous tough luxurious LC100. Did I forget to mention that some GX-R models and all VX models have refridgerators under the armrest which can fit a 6pack?
AvalonMan96 09-26-2005, 10:53 AM Actually, the LC cost a bit more than $50k. I saw one at my local Toyota dealership when I was getting my truck's oil changed, and it was around $64K! :yikes:
There goes my dream of buying a brand-new Land Cruiser. :sosad:
Bakemono 09-26-2005, 04:58 PM When I said that the LC is going to be killed, I meant that it wont be offered in the US anymore. Toyota makes a lot of vehicles that never make it to the American market.
Its just like the Celica. Toyota will still be making it, but it wont be sold in the US.
Cap'n
Aussie Toyota 09-26-2005, 10:59 PM celica is dead everywhere
CACressida 09-27-2005, 03:59 AM The base model GX LC would be a watered down version of the US LandCruiser, but it aint cheap. IT costs equivalent to 40gs, and its still a nice vehicle. Doesn't have any cheap materials at all. And the VX model is like the LX470 and costs the same and theres alot of them cruising the middle eastern streets. As for the VX-R Limited, theres alot of them, not as much as the regular VX models cruising the streets and they cost about equivalent to $100,000. The Lexus LX470 is equivalent to $130,000 and nothing in American can be compared with the middle eastern LX470. You wont find helpful websites, but I was there and I know whats going on there. They can afford these handsome vehicles. I did visit alot of showrooms when I was there too. And the best thing about the Middle East is, your vehicle doesn't lose its value like in the USA.
A 1991 Cressida Luxury model Grande costs believe it or not in the equivalent $15-20,000 range. Thats just an example of used car pricing.
m1234 11-08-2005, 12:51 AM We just bought a 2006 Land Cruiser and the sticker price was 64k (US). I have owned several luxury cars and none holds a candle to the way this vehicle handles on the road.http://www.mrneal.com/photos/m0084481.jpg
situman 11-08-2005, 07:52 PM well if u can afford something like this, I guess gas prices wouldnt be much of an issue for you. Nice piece of hardware.
m1234 11-08-2005, 08:12 PM Well, gas mileage is a slight concern but this vehicle is necessary for my wife's work. She spends a lot of time evaluating housing subdivisions with the presidents of large building companies and is off the road in the mud and snow all the time looking over land and the progress of home building. We also do a considerable amount of 4-wheeling. Here is a picture of the 1996 GMC that the new Land Cruiser is replacing with my wife driving.http://www.mrneal.com/photos/M0020809.jpg
strashk 11-14-2005, 03:10 PM Just bought my 2006 Land Cruiser. Sticker price was $65,300. Got it for $59,000. This is our 2nd Land Cruiser, and 3rd Toyota in the family. Can't go wrong with Toyota!
CACressida 11-28-2005, 12:19 PM Just tell your wife to lock the center diff when it gets sticky or else the VSC will bog down the power from the engine, which may lead to you selling it because you might think its a bad truck. I've seen so many people buy new 4runners, hit the dirt, get stuck because they didn't lock the center differential and sell it because VSC refused to let the truck move because of owner lack of understanding how to use the vehicle.
The Center diff lock is the botton on the dash to the left of your stereo that symbolizes a 4wheeldrivetrain with an X in the middle. If you already know how to do this, then ignore my post lol.
m1234 11-28-2005, 07:28 PM Engage the lock the center differential - good suggestion! When the Sierra's get sufficiently covered with snow, we'll take the Land Crusier up to the snow and try all of the different 4wd settings in different situations.
CACressida 11-30-2005, 01:52 AM Engage the center differential allways when going offroad, or when you get stuck in ice. Center Diff locked = VSC off. Trust me, if you don't have it locked, you'll have a hell of a time. VSC thinks that your losing control and it kills your engines power offroad. You don't want that offroad, you need the tires to spin freely, especially in mud and sand. I suggest ripping off them ugly running boards and installing some very nice rocksliders. Trust me, offroading in a LandCruiser will make you want more lol.
