Yaris is now on Toyota.ca!!!echo_hrs 10-03-2005, 01:11 PM Yaris is now on Toyota.ca!!! Pricing coming October 6th... Ratko 10-03-2005, 02:14 PM saw that too. Im very curious to know what the price will be. I may be in the market for a year-round commuter. aznstylez 10-03-2005, 05:36 PM I thought the Vitz was gonna come over to the U.S. this year or next year with only 103hp which is too weak for the american market. tony echo_hrs 10-03-2005, 06:39 PM I thought the Vitz was gonna come over to the U.S. this year or next year with only 103hp which is too weak for the american market. tony Not this again...Read this exact discussion about the so called low "horsepower"...The Yaris is just over one second slower 0-60 mph than a Corolla XRS... http://www.toyotanation.com/forum/t96662.html Cheers bB626 10-03-2005, 06:41 PM yes, the Yaris/Vitz is coming to the US early spring next year. 103hp isnt too weak. how about the Honda Jazz that is coming to US too? it has only 1.3 liter with 75hp... Tideland Prius 10-03-2005, 11:34 PM woot! silver04rollas 10-04-2005, 12:06 AM Yaris RS Horsepower 106 Torque 103 Curb Weight 2320 lbs 0-60 8.5 seconds Corolla XRS Horsepower 170 Torque 127 Curb Weight 2670 lbs 0-60 7.1 seconds The XRS has the 6 speed, but barely out races the 5 speed Yaris/Echo... Cheers Compare apples to oranges. Both cars are geared for different buyers. Barely???...lol. A second and a half difference in 0-60 translates to about 4-5 car's length for your information and it only gets worse from there when it gets close to the quartermile since XRS makes most of it's power up top and will increase to 8-10 cars (I live in Calgary, AB and any Echo hatchback owner is welcome to have a friendly race). echo_hrs 10-04-2005, 12:39 AM Geez, You XRS guys are so sensitive when we compare 0-60 times...the point is, the Yaris/Echo Hatchback, which isn't the "hot-rod" XRS, is no slug when it comes to acceleration, and it's light weight more than makes up for lower horsepower numbers on paper... I would expect an XRS to eat an Echo/Yaris for breakfast, but I wouldn't say the Echo is a slow car by any means... Cheers silver04rollas 10-04-2005, 12:58 AM Yes, 8.5 seconds 0-60 is pretty good for a compact car. It is one of the quicker compact cars especially around corners, they turn on a dime like the Mini Cooper. I would expect an XRS to eat an Echo/Yaris for breakfast, but I wouldn't say the Echo is a slow car by any means... Cheers Tideland Prius 10-04-2005, 01:24 AM It's as fast as a Sienna or a Camry V6 =) Btw, how come the Yaris with automatic has similar mileage as a Corolla with a manual? (i know, diff transmissions but...) how come? Are the gearing for the Yaris more aggressive than the Corolla's? rolla-XRS 10-04-2005, 05:04 AM Yes...but I believe that Echo (and the new Yaris) have superchargers. Wonder how that balances things and makes an XRS driver sweat off the line. :naughty:  echo_hrs 10-04-2005, 10:33 AM http://toyotaownersclub.com/forums/uploads/garage_mod-1986-1106386517_thumb.jpg http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y26/white_hatch/TRD3drEcho2005.jpg From the Toyota Tech who owns the TRD Canada Supercharged Echo Hatchback... It does hold its own, I had it at the Dunnville track which is very tight but it was still impressive to be faster than M3's and 996's. Plain acceleration those cars are a bit faster but on a twisty track it was nice to show the BMW and Porsche owners what the Echo can do. I never timed it for a 0-100 but it feels faster than a Corolla XRS and a lot of other cars. Phi 10-06-2005, 09:46 AM Yaris is now on Toyota.ca!!! Pricing coming October 6th... Here it is LINK (http://www.newswire.ca/en/releases/archive/October2005/06/c8272.html) Attention Business/Automotive Editors: Toyota Announces Pricing for 2006 Yaris Canada Is First Market to Sell All-New Yaris, At Dealerships in Mid-October TORONTO, Oct. 6 /CNW/ - Responding to customer demand for more style and performance in a practical, affordable package, Toyota is bringing the all-new 2006 Yaris to the Canadian market. Toyota - already the top-selling subcompact nameplate in Canada - expects to completely redefine the expectations of owners in this highly competitive category, thanks to the Yaris's dynamic exterior styling, roomy and chic interior, precise handling, and class-leading safety features and fuel economy. With its introduction to North America and other parts of the world, the new Toyota Yaris becomes a truly global vehicle with widespread appeal. Traditionally, subcompacts compromised style and performance in order to provide basic functionality at an affordable price. Toyota listened when target owners expressed their desire for a small vehicle that is highly practical, without being 'sub' anything. "Yaris has enormous appeal for 'trend-setting' owners, who demand a vehicle that expresses their personalities without compromising style, quality and handling," said Tony Wearing, Managing Director of TCI. "Extroverted and active, these are well-educated, technologically savvy consumers who use their access to information to make knowledgeable purchase decisions based on their unique tastes and needs." The Yaris is the latest creation from ED2, Toyota's European design studio, and the first vehicle sold in Canada to be created entirely using Toyota's new Vibrant Clarity design principles. 'Vibrant' refers to the design's energy and innovative character; 'clarity' stresses rationality, the need to keep the design crisp and easy to interpret at a glance. ED2 has thoughtfully expressed Vibrant Clarity throughout the vehicle to create a design with worldwide appeal, and a character that is instantly recognizable as Toyota. The minimal front overhang, wide stance, flowing sidelines and streamlined bumpers result in a uniquely proportioned body that is both strong and energetic. The 'S'-shaped doors are very difficult to engineer but catch and reflect light so that it plays up the design's refreshing energy. The flowing shoulder line enhances the lively proportions, and the forward-leaning rear silhouette creates a feeling of power and stability. The ergonomically designed interior package is carefully designed to provide class-leading roominess in a cabin that is highly functional as well as sporty and comfortable. A number of design elements create a sense of eye-catching quality that is uncommon in the class. A 'Loop Style Concept' creates a visually open space using a light colour scheme that loops from the door arm rests to the pillars and headliner. The centre instrument cluster uses an unusual vertical layout and an innovative hoodless instrument panel design to create a totally unique appearance that is both sporty and highly functional. Furthermore, the 2006 Yaris is equipped with an exceptional range of standard and optional equipment, and comes in a host of vibrant colours including three never-before seen shades: copper orange mica, bayou blue metallic and blazing blue metallic. Buyers can also customize their Yaris by choosing from a menu of nearly 50 features to add unique style, utility and performance to their vehicle. For example, air conditioning is available as a stand-alone option on models where it is not standard equipment, and Toyota has made it extremely easy for owners to upgrade the audio system on the CE and LE trim levels (the premium audio system is standard equipment on the RS grade). "The target buyer for Yaris values individuality and personal style," said Wearing. "They appreciate the chance to create a total package that's uniquely their own." Yaris will be sold in both 3- and 5-door models, and come in three trim levels including CE, LE, and the sporty RS grade. Manufacturer's Suggested Retail (MSRP) price for the 3-door Yaris with manual transmission will start at just $13,580 for the CE trim level, $14,175 for the Yaris LE, and $16,880 for the 3-door Yaris RS. MSRP for the 5-door Yaris LE will be $14,910; at the RS trim level, pricing will start at $17,615. The new 2006 Yaris will also keep prices down at the pumps; the Yaris with manual transmission uses just 6.9 L/100km city and 5.5 L/100km highway. With the automatic transmission, fuel consumption is 7.1 L/100km city and 5.8 L/100km highway. Canadian car buyers will experience the all-new Yaris in advance of drivers in both Europe and the United States when it goes on sale here in mid-October, taking the place of best-selling Echo Hatchback. 2006 TOYOTA YARIS HATCHBACK - PRODUCT DETAIL -------------------------------------------- DEVELOPMENT BACKGROUND ---------------------- The Yaris was designed to achieve a new standard for vehicles in this segment. Its energetic design, based on the principles of Vibrant Clarity, maintains the compact body size but inside is a passenger compartment that offers exceptional roominess in a space designed to feel airy and open. Driving the Yaris reveals a new level of nimble handling and superior driving stability, and safety performance is outstanding. POWERTRAIN ---------- Lively and fun to drive, Yaris is equipped with a 106 horsepower, 1.5-litre, DOHC 4-cylinder engine with VVT-i (Variable Valve Timing- intelligent) that provides excellent power and class-leading fuel economy. Plenty of muscle and torque in the low to medium rpm ranges mean lively response at all speeds, and the engine is mated to either a standard 5-speed manual transmission or optional 4-speed electronically controlled automatic transmission. The automatic version is enhanced with a new uphill/downhill shift control monitors throttle opening and vehicle speed to ensure that the Yaris is always in the optimum gear for seamless performance when climbing or descending a grade. A new flex lock-up control increases transmission efficiency during acceleration and better manages fuel consumption during deceleration to maximize fuel economy. HANDLING AND MANEUVERABILITY --------------------------- When developing the new Yaris, Toyota engineers set their sights on an uncompromising design that would combine a sporty driving feel with excellent stability and a comfortable ride. The Yaris's suspension with speed sensing Electric Power Steering (EPS) was developed specifically to meet these goals and take full advantage of the new platform. A new L-arm MacPherson strut front suspension with front stabilizer bar, and a new rear suspension with a highly rigid torsion beam ensure excellent turning and straight-line stability. Anti-dive and anti-squat geometry suppress changes in vehicle posture during braking and acceleration. Shock absorbers with a newly developed valve ensure smooth damping characteristics and the total effect is a driving experience that is both exhilarating and composed. For composed handling even when driven aggressively, the suspension is tuned to provide a slight understeer effect. This offsets the potential instability caused by quick steering inputs. Long-stroke shock absorbers with a newly developed valve create effortless damping, and the steering gear ratios have been modified to match the new suspension geometry. The result is a lively driving experience that combines stable control with nimble response. ROOMY, COMFORTABLE, CUSTOMIZABLE -------------------------------- Yaris isn't just great looking; every element has been carefully considered to make it functional as well as sporty and eye-catching. The unique vertical arrangement of the instruments, for example, also creates more leg room, and the Optitron meters provide excellent visibility. A tilt steering wheel is standard equipment, offering adjustability of driving positions for a wide variety of physiques. Rear seating space is among the best-in-class, and the flat rear floor means three rear passengers all ride in comfort. The frame and fabric of the new seats have been designed to make them more comfortable and less likely to cause fatigue on long trips. Generous rear cargo space is complemented by 12 smart storage spaces within the cabin, designed to be convenient and easy to reach, especially those intended for use by the driver. The 2006 Yaris is available in a 3-door configuration with a choice of CE, LE and RS trim levels, or as a 5-door model in either LE or RS trim. The 3-door Yaris CE (MSRP $13,580) is fitted with standard: - AM/FM/CD audio system with 2 speakers - Tachometer - Adjustable rear-seat headrests - Dual vanity mirrors - Tilt-adjust 3-spoke steering wheel - Rear window defroster with timer - Generous passenger compartment storage, including cup holders, seatback pockets, door map pockets, centre console box and 2-level glove box - Passenger side rear walk-in assist - Tinted glass - Reflector style halogen headlamps An LE package of options (MSRP $595) enhances the 3-door Yaris with: - power remote exterior mirrors - rear window wiper/washer - front and rear splash guards - 2 additional speakers for the stereo To this, a "C" option package (MSRP $2,530) also adds: - Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) - Electronic Brake Force Distribution (EBD) - Air conditioning - Power windows and doorlocks - Remote keyless entry The 3-door Yaris RS (MSRP $16,880) offers standard: - 4-speaker AM/FM audio system with in-dash 6-CD changer and MP3 capability - Sport-type front seats - Sliding rear seats that can be folded flat to provide maximum cargo area, or in a 60/40 combination to accommodate luggage and passengers - Leather-wrapped steering wheel (and shift knob on models with manual transmission) - 15-inch aluminum alloy wheels with wheel locks - Fog lamps - Coloured outside mirrors, side skirts and rear spoiler The 3-door RS can be further enhanced with a "B" option package (MSRP $1,490), including: - Air conditioning - Power windows and door locks - Keyless entry In addition to most of the equipment found in the 3-door version, the Yaris 5-door LE (MSRP $14,910) is equipped with standard: - 4-speaker AM/FM/CD sound system - Power door locks - Power remote exterior mirrors - Adjustable B-pillar shoulder belt anchors - Child protector rear door locks - Rear window wiper/washer - Front and rear splash guards A "B" package of options (MSRP $1,650) adds features to the 5-door LE that include: - Anti-lock Braking System - Electronic Brake Force Distribution - Air conditioning - Power windows - Remote keyless entry The 5-door Yaris RS (MSRP $17,615) is equipped with standard: - 4-speaker AM/FM sound system with in-dash 6-CD changer and MP3 capability - Power door locks - Sport-type front seats - Sliding rear seats that can be folded flat to provide maximum cargo area, or in a 60/40 combination to accommodate luggage and passengers - Leather-wrapped steering wheel (and shift knob on models with manual transmission) - 15-inch aluminum alloy wheels with wheel locks - Fog lamps - Coloured outside mirrors, side skirts and rear spoiler A "B" option package adds air conditioning, power windows and keyless entry. The new Yaris can also be customized by choosing from nearly 50 accessories that can be selected individually to create a totally unique package. Air conditioning is available as a stand-alone option on models where it is not standard equipment, and Toyota has made it extremely easy for owners to upgrade the audio system on the CE and LE trim levels. Because the target customer for Yaris tends to be highly net-savvy, Toyota also offers them the chance to build their dream Yaris using the accessory configurator at www.toyota.ca (available at time of launch), and look at the results, inside and out, from a full 360 degrees. Customers can price their selection on the 'Price Your Toyota' section of the website, then take this information directly to a dealer, knowing exactly what they want and how much it will cost. ENVIRONMENTAL PERFORMANCE ------------------------- The Yaris's engine, designed to provide excellent power and torque in the low to medium rpm range for energetic driving performance, also provides class-leading fuel economy. Yaris is rated as an Ultra Low Emissions Vehicle 2 (ULEVII). Yaris is also designed to minimize the impact of the total vehicle life cycle on the environment. Fewer materials that burden the environment are used in the interior, and a water-based base coat is used on the body. OUTSTANDING SAFETY ------------------ Yaris's advanced safety features include outstanding protection for both occupants and pedestrians. The body was created using Toyota's Minimum Intrusion Cabin System (MICS) that provides excellent impact force absorption and dispersion to minimize cabin deformation during a collision. In addition, the pedestrian-injury- lessening body structure is designed to reduce head injuries to pedestrians. Inside, occupants are protected with dual SRS front airbags and a new Whiplash Impact Lessening (WIL) seat structure that helps reduce the reaction force at the seatback and suppress tilting of the head and vertebrae. The seats further improve safety by enhancing the driver's field of view, thanks to the saddle-shaped headrest. Anti-lock brakes are available as an option. The Yaris is designed to achieve the highest rating for crash protection. Yaris is also provided with Toyota's no deductible, no transfer fee, New Vehicle Warranty that covers the entire vehicle for 3 years/60,000 kilometres. Power train components are covered for 5 years/100,000 kilometres, major emission control components for 8 years/130,000 kilometres and corrosion perforation for five years with unlimited distance. Toyota also provides 24-hour Roadside Assistance for all models. Help is just a phone call away at 1-888-TOYOTA-8. Roadside emergency services include battery boost, lockout service, fuel delivery, tire change, winching, and even towing. Optional Extended Care Protection (ECP) is also available, which includes travel planning and trip interruption assistance, vehicle rental help, lubrication maintenance, and mechanical protection for up to 6 years/200,000 km of 17 major mechanical component groups. TRDSienna 10-06-2005, 04:38 PM Yeah, I saw it, check out the Yaris video on toyota.ca, lol making it look euro by fliming it in Quebec City. :canada: echo_hrs 10-06-2005, 05:58 PM Since the highest volume sales of the Echo was in Quebec, it's no surprise they would use it as the backdrop for the Yaris launch... Quebec was the only province to get a hard launch of the Echo Hatch, all other markets got almost zero publicity before the car was introduced... Tideland Prius 10-06-2005, 08:02 PM mmhmm kasimmmmm 10-07-2005, 12:39 AM hope they have cool oem kits for it. :naughty: Merciles 10-07-2005, 03:25 AM I am somewhat disappointed with the fact that fuel ecomony is not much different than the corolla. Tideland Prius 10-07-2005, 01:13 PM I assume you drive a manual? It seems probable that manuals have a greater potential of getting better than EPA mileage. Merciles 10-07-2005, 04:20 PM Real world mileage always smokes the on-paper numbers, My Echo Hatch Completely destroyed my Corolla S for mileage... Do you have any real world numbers or something that can give me a better idea of what you mean. And this yaris is a bit heavier than your echo hatch right? Maxillius 10-17-2005, 02:17 AM That thing is HIDEOUS!!! I don't care what kind of speed or economy numbers it gets! Lasse D 10-17-2005, 08:35 AM What an incredible thirst for horsepower! The Yaris is a supermini. If you want a hot rod in that class then get a Mini Cooper S! The fun you get in that type of cars is not from the acceleration. It's from the nimble performance that gets you through corners with a huge grin all over your face. The 1.5 is only sold as a sports edition (T-sport or T-spirit) here in Europe. Here the base version is the 1.0 liter. I have driven the 1.0 for years now without feeling a lack of power - you can always downshift. Even when the speedometer shows more than 170km/h the car still feels fine (you often have to go more than 140 on the motorway) Fuel economy is amasing. I usually get around 47mpg which is 6mpg more than advertised. The 1.4 diesel even gets Prius-like fuel economy. In a consumer test a while back, the Yaris and Fiat Punto were the only ones to achieve better than advertised fuel economy. There is a reason why a Yaris 1.0 was the most inexpensive non-diesel car to own. >Maxillius It's not the current Echo sedan we are talking about. echo_hrs 10-17-2005, 10:05 AM I think Maxillius just bought a 2005 Sedan Echo...So he's got some bias about the styling for the moment... Tideland Prius 10-17-2005, 01:08 PM lol Yeah, the new Yaris 1.0 is ridiculously fuel efficient. It even has the auto-stop feature that shuts off the engine at when at rest and comes with a CVT. ToYoBear 10-18-2005, 08:59 AM I do not see what the fuss is about. Echo was really all the time Yaris. Toyota Europe had called this Car from the beginning on Yaris. Check this out: http://www.toyota.at/cars/new_cars/index.asp Here you find some models unknown to north America, or same Cars with different name. Tideland Prius 10-18-2005, 12:34 PM It's because it's an all-new car and it's much better than the previous Yaris/Vitz/Echo Why? 10-18-2005, 12:38 PM Not to mention the US is FINALLY getting the 3 door hatch. toydon 10-22-2005, 06:07 PM When is this neat and nice mialaged car coming to the U.S. ?
