Hey guys,

I just purchased a TKO Racing 3" Exhaust with 6" magnaflow mufflers. Before I go ahead and do the work to get it mounted, I wanted to know if I need to purchase a downpipe. Does it make a difference in terms of potential power gained that merits around $250 more? I'm not cheap and I would drop the money if I knew how much more power I would be getting. If the gains are minimal, then I won't worry about it. However, if there are other gains to be had, say better flow to the exhaust system then I'll definitely consider.

Also, I am looking online and I found a few downpipes such as the Tanabe brand. However, I haven't purchased from them before, so I'd like to have your guys' opinions about which downpipe to go buy if I do need one.

hey hows it going i have a 91 mr2 n/a
I took it to a mechanic it has been 2 weeks and he story is tht my fans are not turning at the temp there suppose to turn on.
He told me they turn on late after the temp original temp its suppose to turn on.
He told me he has to reprogram the computer dont know which one, but that he has to reprogram it for the computer could tell when the fans should turn on and stay on for the fans wont start at the temp when its over heating is this true or false

I am in the process of doing a swap a rev 1 N/A to a rev 3 Turbo, i used to run a mechanical speedo but the gearbox of the rev 3 and the instrument cluster are both electric, what do i need to make this work, ie take out the speedo cable and replace with?

This has been a project in our New Zealand garage for a bit over 12 months now, so here is a brief update.


Bought a cheap MRS as a donor car (we also bought a real tidy Red one to make the body moulds off, that we then sold again)



& stripped it out



right out (like every possible nut & bolt



then we cut some holes for the new engine



Meantime we were getting moulds & panels made



made moulds & articles off all the panels (bumpers front& rear guards, doors, bonnet, boot & hardtop)



Meanwhile, engine wise, we were converting this



into this



And with Carillo rods, JE Pistons & a whole load of other goodies from APE raceparts in USA, we are aiming for 400hp from the Suzuki Hayabusa Turbo engine.

then add in a roll cage



a very comprehensive one



and a quick mock up of body panels to weigh the car. Bodyshell incl. rollcage, most panels, engine, gearbox, diff, seat & controls, suspension arms, shocks etc = 416kg (still needs wheels, brakes & all plumbing etc etc)



Finally about a year down the track it finally sits on its own wheels & suspension for the first time






Then another mock-up with its bodypanels including BA Falcon V8 Supercar front splitter etc





More enthusiasm gets generated as it gets closer & closer to being finished, so I will try to keep the thread updated regularly as we gat closer to finishing this 400hp, 600kg Weapon....

Hello all,

I just got my 1991 MR2 turbo back from my dealer, only to find that the clutch pedal cover was broken and came off. I guess it was wear and tear and whoever sat in it last did the damage. So I need to buy a set of new pedal covers, however, I have never looked into doing this and I was wondering if pedal covers have a universal fit. Also, when I googled for car pedal covers, they are priced pretty cheap and come in plastic, aluminum, and metal.

What type should I buy and are there fitting issues that I need to be aware of?

PS - Just got my Revision 6 Hella lights installed into my Turbo. They look amazing, however, I have to go back to the dealer because my fog lights are disconnected :headbang: To top it off, my driver side blinker is also disconnected...Looks like they forgot to connect some things before they put it together...so looking to end this nightmare tomorrow.:lame:

If it's not one thing it's a fricken 'nother.
Since I found the source of the smoking and fixed it, the car has been running great. I crank it up today and there's tapping noise coming from the valve cover.
I thought immediately- lifter shims hitting cams.
This is what I found at the #4 cylinder exhaust side.



The shim is shattered into 2 pieces and some of the bucket edge is eaten away. I'm surprised theres no scoring on the cam lobe.
3 other valve clearances did not spec out either.

Hell, I just bought a set of new staggered rims 17x7 w/38 offset ff and 17x9 35 offset rr.
Now I wish I woulda held off. I was gonna do a built head with SS over size valves, dual springs , titanium retainers and 264 cams in the near future, but not this near. Especially with Christmas coming up.
Oh well, whats done is done.

hi to all need to the signs of the gs3te celica leaning out such as the coclor of the spark plugs or anything like that wen ifirst bought the car it use blow a little smoke from being rich it has now stopped doing that which my guess can only be 1 thing it has leaned of plz help need to know

hey just curious if you guys would think these exhaust tips would work if i took out the muffler and just straight piped to them, my question is mostly would they fit? and do you think there would be way to much rasp...i hate rasp

They tell me this part is discontinued. Mine is frayed at the engine end. Does anyone know is enough slack and be found by re routing etc. to gain a foot so it can be shortened some way.

hey everyone... its been a while since ive been here....i had a first gen mr2 ....well the cops got it :(....now a few cars later ....here i am ...i will be picking up a 91' mr2 t-top...5spd but its not turbo...(that will change) i plan on ordering a nice wooden box from japan containing the jdm engine trans and other such components that come with it..
guys i need tips ,suggestions,and all the infinite knowledge you guys got!

first off.. since it is the non turbo and not much special yet ....any basic thing i might want to look at doing or checking upon??

hey hows it going i installed white gauges on my car but my stupid friend when he remove the needles before telling me he jiggle them to pull them so when i reinstalled everything they mph is off by 4-6 miles the gas one is on the same spot no moving the rpm is a lil off,
does anyone know how to fix this problem
