This past week I purchased a 2005 xA with 34K miles. Yesterday I started doing a major service. I saw the factory air filter was dirty, so I purchased a Wix filter (knowing Wix is a very good quality filter). When I tried to install it, the rubber gasket around the edge was too thick to allow the top of the air cleaner housing to close. So I figured I had better stay with factory Toyota filters that have more of a dense felt gasket area. I took the Wix filter back to the parts store and explained the problem. The store manager said he could get the factory filter for me, or at least the same type that the factory purchases. I went down to the parts store today to pick up the "factory" air filter, only to see it was the same as the Wix. Needless to say, I got my money back. So, my question is this: Is the Toyota filter (P/N 17801-21030) the best filter element to use inside the stock air cleaner housing?

Thanks.

This week I purchased a 2005 xA. Since I will be doing the maintenance myself I wanted to get a repair manual. I checked the Haynes site, but they don't publish one (that I could find). I then downloaded a manual on-line for $12. At first I was impressed. Supposedly it was "the same manual mechanics use." It had MANY sections, lots of pages, tons of diagrams, and the instructions seemed straight forward. But then, when I wanted to dig into a subject, I was very disappointed. Within any given section, the pages are NOT IN ORDER. Then, some of the pages, and invariably the one I REALLY needed, was missing. What a piece of "yesterday's lunch!" I just now called up the phone number in the back of the Owner's Manual, which is to Toyota's publication group. Volume 1, Diagnostics, Specs., and Maintenance Prep. is $70. Volume 2, Mechanical Repairs, is another $70. And each of these volumes refer to the other. (Oh yah, the Electrical Manual is another $60, but I don't need that one.) Does anyone have any suggestions, other than to spend $140 on "official" (but at least COMPLETE) Toyota manuals?

Thanks in advance

Hello,

My check engine light came on the other day. I went over to my father-in-law's and we ran the diagnostics on my 2006 Scion xA and these five codes were displayed. I did some Googling and found this technical service bulletin which seems to be the exact problem: http://tijil.org/Scion_TSBs/eg04706.pdf.

My question is, how serious is this? I will call the dealer but I wasn't sure how long I could drive it before making an appointment. Also, if I purchased an extended warranty (Platinum Warranty) would this work be covered? I have around 61.5k miles.

Thanks for you help!
Shaun
