Looking for advise on my 99 4Runner. The other day tried to start it and just got that solenoid clicking. Jumped it with my civic right away. Then each start for a few days was very laboured-barely turning over but after several seconds would start. No clicking. Seemed to start faster after it had been driven (would get home, turn it off, then start it right away). Then last evening it wouldn't start again and had the clicking. Jumped it and started right away. Starting again this am, again slow to fire up. I did add some water to the cells in the middle of all of this.

Tested the battery and it's showing (after idling for awhile, then turned off) @ 10.7V. Can there be something draining the battery or is it simply dead? The clicking doesn't necessarily mean starter or solenoid issues?

Does anyone know how to remove the HVAC control dials/HVAC control panel to replace a light bulb? My blower control light is burnt out and I can't figure out how to get in there to replace it. I'm assuming its one of those $7 mini-lightbulbs like what's in the '05 Taco.

I have a 2006 4Runner SR5 4X4 with single disc (non JBL) stereo and I am looking into upgrading my steering wheel to one having audio controls. Do I need to purchase the smaller airbag cover or is it possible to purchase just the cover and transplant the airbag. Also what exactly is the clockspring and is another one needed to make the audio controls work. I have been looking all over the forum and can't find the answers.

on my 94 4Runner, The topmost three lines across the rear defroster work, and then another random one across the middle of the glass, but otherwise the rest of them do not work... I was thinking at first that this was a relay, but if that were the case, none of them would work right?

So i'm kinda leaning towards the possibility that the actual window itself may be the culprit. The light on the defroster switch itself turns on, so I'm not thinking its a switch failure.

any thoughts?

fuses look good, i tried to test the contact points but couldnt find a good ground, and so i don't know if those are good or not.

I'm angry because I just bought this car from a guy who said "oh yea the defroster works fine" and as it had not really been cold enough to test it, i took him at his word.

but those are the joys of used car buying i guess.

Ok so my sis has a 98 4runner and she wants new rotors, the problem is that whenever she tries to search for rotors the only part that they show on the list are front. I have no idea if the front rotors are the same as the rear. anybody know? She would also like to know where can she buy some new head gaskets online. Thanks guys.

2005 Ltd.; New to me today, 11/17/09

Once it fires up the idle drops and sometimes stalls or stays very low about to stall. Once i give it gas its fine. Never does this at redlights or when I stop after driving. Seems like only once its sitting and then i start it from being cold.
any ideas or where to look

I have 2004 4runner w/110500; does the fluid need to be changed in the trany?

I have searched the web (not t-nation) and the general theme seems to be that the fluid does not need to be changed for the life of the runner.:dunno:

Is this true? Or is it a safe thing to change it?

I have a 1998 V6 4Runner that runs great up to 4000-4100 RPM (or so) and then coughs and sputters like it is hitting a rev-limiter. No check-engine light. I have replaced the spark plugs, air filter, cleaned the throttle-body, cleaned the MAF, replaced the fuel filter, and the problem continues. Anyone else had the same problem or know what to check next?

I have a great '88 4Runner 22RE 4cyl that needs the fuel injectors rebuilt. Any detailed advice on doing-it-yourself? The Chilton manual has minimal information on the specifics for the removal of the air intake manifold and fuel rail. Thanks.

Guys my 4 Runner has a brand new battery in it. I think my starter maybe going out. Before I rip it out and have it tested I wanted to see if it could possibly be something else. Here is what its doing:

When I turn the key nothing happens. I can turn the key 5-6 times and nothing happens. Then suddenly I try it again and it cranks. Sounds like the starter is shot. Would you agree?

Also - From what I understand to replace the starter you remove the passenger side wheel, remove the mud shield plastics around the wheel, remove the skid plate, remove the dipstick holder, remove the brake line holders and then you disassemble the starter in two places and pull it out through the wheel well. Do I need a swivel wrench and socket (I still do not have one of these). Thanks gentleman and ladies.

I'm currently looking at a 93 4Runner 4x4, but it looks like it has a bad engine. I have access to both a GM 4.3L V6 and a GM 4.8L V8. Does anyone out there have experience switching a GM motor over to a 4Runner? Are there any kits out there that could make the switch easier?

If I went through with it, it'd be my first time undertaking something like this. All help appreciated.

cigarette lighter not working. fuse? did not see any broken fuses. i need it for my satelite radio. thought i would ask before i go further.:D

Last week i replaced my alt due to brushes acting up, and when i hooked everything up again it would turn over but not start not too sure what the deal is. Only thing that is suspicious is that there is a cable with a washer type end on it that im not too sure where it goes, i put it on the alt and i think that blew my alt fuse so i replaced it and took that wire off, now only turns over but wont start? I think that cable is part of the coil. Any suggestions?
