Hi all,I have a 1988 toyota 4x4,short box,regular cab.When I go to accelerate,the truck starts sputtering,and doesnt have any go in it.Sometimes I have to rev it up to 4,000 rpms befor I shift gears.I cant get the truck over a 100 km on teh freeway either.I had the fuel filter changed a couple months back,new air cleaner.What could be the problem?

I removed the computer because there where bolts missing on the case and inside the case, put new bolts in, installed the computer, now it wont start, i am gettin fuel and spark, i even tried another computer, and nothing, any ideas? Thanks

Hi i ended up scoreing me a BRAND SPANKING still in the box never opened RAMSEY 8500lb truck winch for 300 bucks. It seemed like a good price i got it off crigslist now i stumped to how im going to get it on the front of my 88 toyota! any one here have any pics of there setup that i could go by. I was thinking maybe some thick sheet metal and weld it on the front of the truck or if i could buy a mounting bracket some where for a decent price. any ideas?

whats needed for for a swap? i have a w56 trans from an 864runner. i know i need a clutch, clutch pedal, clutch line, master cylinder,new drive shaft. but besides that will everything bolt up?

are there any pages on a swap i can look at? ive searched but havent found anything :/

Hey guys, I am wanting to buy a Toyota pickup that I can run 37's on. I was looking at this cheap and beat up 84 to start with. I am curious as to what I should watch out for when looking at it, as well as what to ask the owner about it. Any help from more veteran Toyota owners would be much appreciated. :thumbsup:

I'm stuck. Well, more like my transmission is stuck, to the engine. I'm in the "middle" of my first clutch replacement, and the tranny won't budge. I dropped the cross-member, cut off the rust-locked exhaust pipes, took out
SIX 17mm bolts (assumed to be the engine mounts) and FIVE 14mm bolts (assumed to be the clutch cover bolts) from the forward-most part of the transmission. I also pulled out both shifters, disconnected the slave cylinder, took off both drive shafts (it's 4wd), disconnected all of the wiring, and found a 10mm nut on the top of the tranny that I took off after squirming in the wheel well for 15 minutes.

Now the tranny will sway and swing back and forth, but I can't separate it from the engine. I pulled the clutch cover about half-way out, but it won't go any further. If you have any idea what's going on, please let me know.

I really hope it was something stupid that I missed because I'd like to have the thing all the way apart and back together within a week.

i finally decided to sell my 83 pickup to purchure a 4 runner it has 249,000 22r 2wd and im askin 1000 cash for it i live in dever colorado, but i want rusty to have a good home he's close to my heart. no major mechanil problems vapor lock occasional, needs oilpan gasket eventually but not necessary if u add oil every so often, as well as a front cabel for the parking brake which isnot necessary. If anyone is interested, post a reply and ill post details to contact me. i posted pics i have the other to matchin keystone rims and tires for the front as well as a bed shell(not pictured)"/>

Does anyone have experience in this matter? I found some great double bar guards for an 83 and wanna put them on my 87 4x4 RN63. Help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

What years of Toyota trucks had the white "4WD" inprinted on them? I want to get a set of four and mount then in front of the molderd ones on my '04 Highlander 4WD. The molded ones aren't cuting it, and I want to pay homage to Toyota 4WD heritage.;)

is this possible without spending a lot of money?(like for under $1500)

my thoughts are a 20r head swap, a new cam, either stock carb or the weber 32/36, an exhaust header, hi flow cat, 2in exhaust

any other ideas for power adders?

also when i rebuild the engine should i upgrade the internals? im not planning on going above 1800hp, will the stock internals handle this?

Ive been thinking about doing the 20r head swap into my '84 22r. my question is about headers. I guess ill use the stock intake but i wanted to get a new exhaust header and run a 2in exhaust all the way back with a hi flow cat and cherry bomb muffler. Do i have to use a 20R or will a 22r manifold fit?

Hi all,I have a 1988 toyota 4x4,short box,single cab.I was driving home one night,and the truck just died.I got it going again by putting a different battery in it,and drove it home and parked it.

For weeks before this happend,the truck was running very bad....it had no power....and was sputtering,I had to rev it up to 4,500 or so rpm's just to get going...and I couldnt get the truck over a 100 km on the freeway.I was having to dissconect the battery everytime I shut the truck off...because the battery was draining.

So today,I go to start the truck with a good battery,and everytime I turned the key...everything in the truck would just shut off.

Anyone have any idea of what I shold be looking at to try and fix this problem?

not a question but some items I found that will stop a ecu from running

1) the plastic tube not hook to the AFM, not going start

2) the ground wire on the bottom of the pletnum not hook, not going start

3) the EGR not hook to the pletnum or the hole not block, not going start

I have an 88 Pickup. I went out to start it today and nothing. It doesn't do anything other than a click at the computer, and it almost sounds like a buzz coming from the under hood area. Possibly the starter. I Have checked the battery, I cant find a fuse or relay for the starter. I have pulled the starter, and it looked fine. Any Input on what to check next, or common problems would be greatly appreciated.

I have an 87 toyota 2wd auto 22r and its does not want to start up at all. Has had some parts replaced such as a brand new battery, fuel pickup tubes (tank), distributor cap, plug wires, timing chain w/ toy filter new belts oil coolant not sure why it doensnt run. Checked and found good spark on all four plug wires. even poured gas in carb and started for a split second than died. Asking any help u can offer.
