1. removed the oil pan and found a bolt from the timing chain guide. Pick up clogged 80%
2. removed the valve cover and engine pretty dirty
3. installed new timing chain kit(timing chain, oil chain, tensioner, etc.) new oil pump, sending unit.
4. cleaned up head as best we could
6.started it up checked oil pressure(6psi idle 56psi 3000rpm) for 15 mins.
7. no warning lights on

Drove for about 5 miles till light came on, Changed the filter. light went off. Drove about 12 more miles light came on. Changed filter light went off, drove about 50 miles before light came on.Changed oil and at about 60 miles no light. Checked pressure at each post filter change and it was same

Is engine so dirty it is clogging filters that quick ( using cheap o fram filters)?

2004 rav 4 136,000 miles

Any thoughts?
Would any body have the diagram of the 2013 Rav 4 fuse box. I will be installing my new radio unit this week with the GPS and i will also install a small under the seat sub nothing big but just enough to give it a kick. I need to plug in the power of this small sub so it will start up at the same time as the car and radio so for this it would help to have the fuse box diagram or even better if any body knows what color cable is the power to the radio then this would be even better.
Thank all.

I just wrapped up the timing belt and water pump job but I'm not sure how tight to make the alternator belt. The manual gives specs for using a special gauge which I dont own. I usually try to get about 1/2" to 3/4" of deflection in the longest run of the belt with moderate pressure. So when I started the engine it was good with no slip or squeal. But I noticed the belt flapping or oscillating with different rpms. I tightened it up so there is now 1/2" deflection and I assume with a new belt, it will stretch in about 1/2 hour of use. Does that sound about right? Does anyone notice the belt flapping a bit when running? I should have checked it before removing it.

For starters ... I have a 2010 Rav4 with factory navigation ... this is the same unit that is in the 2009 to 2011 Corolla, Matrix, Rav4, Tundra & Sequoia (E7019 or E7030 on the bottom right hand corner of the face of the radio ... below the Eject button)

Hi all,

Through further research with the OEM Navigation unit found in 2009 to 2011 Rav4s (E7019 on the bottom right corner of the faceplate)... I have found that you can integrate a reverse camera into the navigation display though proper wiring into the existing connectors.

By inserting the following signals on the following pins, the navigation display will switch to the reverse camera display when the vehicle is shifted into reverse.

You will need to insert a 12v+ signal onto pin 5 of the 5-pin connector (Connector E82 - Part # 90980-11909)

Remember the picture is looking at the connector from the front view (the end of the connector that goes into the radio)

Pin 1 = Parking Brake Signal
Pin 3 = VSS Signal
Pin 5 = Reverse 12v+ Signal

On your 20-pin connector (Connector E89 - Part # 90980-12460) ... you need to insert the following connections into the connector

Pin 11 = V+
Pin 12 = V-
Pin 13 = CA+
Pin 14 = CGND

For Reference the following pins are the other connections already in the connector:

Pin 3 = VSS Signal
Pin 6 = SWG - for Steering Wheel Control
Pin 7 = SW1 - for Steering Wheel Control
Pin 8 = SW2 - for Steering Wheel Control
Pin 15 = ARI - for Stereo Jack Input
Pin 16 = ASGN - for Stereo Jack Input
Pin 17 = ALI - for Stereo Jack Input
Pin 18 = AGND - for Stereo Jack Input
Pin 19 = AUXI - for Stereo Jack Input

I used an aftermarket camera made by Eclipse (Fujitsi-Ten) - Model # BEC-108 ... however any of the BEC series BEC-104 through BEC-108 will wire-up the same way:

V+ = Eclipse Yellow Wire
V- = Eclipse White Wire
CA+ = Eclipse Red Wire
CGND = Eclipse Black Wire

You do not need to do anything to the navigation unit itself for this to work ... just wire it up, throw the car in reverse, and the image is displayed on the screen ... shift out of reverse, and you are brought back to the previous screen (MAP, Audio, etc.)

Hi every,
I am thinking of buying a new compact suv, and i have my 3 choises listed, my plan will be a midder trim, i.e. XLE, EX, Touring
I know this is toyota forum, but I want you guys be honest with me rather than just saying "buy toyota"

Here is some of my though:
I know many rav4 owners had complianed the new model have no v6, no 3rd row and ugly. Personally, I don't think it is ugly, or it is as "ugly" as the other two anyway. And, the other two have no v6 and no 3rd row anyway. I wanna point out I am choosing among these three, but not compare between the new and old models of rav4.

so, in tearms of power, they are all poor, although I am hoping if they can tow a small trial or camp, but I dont think 10 more/less hp making big differece, am I right?

the outside, as I said, I feel they are same "ugly"/"handsome", but I wanna a red one, and cx-5 charge addition $300 for red color! that sucks.

the inner, I am not getting the bulid-in gps, then the crv has only a small non-touch screen, while rav4 has bigger touch screen than the others, I like it. However, the cup holder is at a wire space :(.

Overall, I feel rav4 is the best choice. However, there are so many people buying crv, and cx-5 gets top reviews, while all the old rav4 owners are dispointing. So, I am hesitate. Any advice?

My mothers 2006 Rav4 v6 (has 98k miles) started displaying the CEL, 4WD and VSC light out of the blue, all at the same time yesterday. My OBD2 scanner shows just one error code: P0355 - Powertrain. Ignition Coil "F" Primary/Secondary Circuit.

Looks like Coil's are a common issue with the 2006 RAV4. I heard they should be replaced in pairs, is that true? Can anyone recommend a brand/part number as I would like to order from RockAuto.

Also, it is time to replace the rotors and brake pads. Anyone have any suggestions? Do not have a budget in mind, just something with good balance of stopping power and life. Once again would like to order from RockAuto.

Thank You!
