Okay, I came across these directions today to disable the seatbelt chime (Thank you to whoever posted the original instructions). I tried it as soon as I got home from work, and it worked. You will need the help of an assistant, unless you are coordinated:

-Get in and shut all the doors.
-Do not touch anything, even the brake, simply turn the key to the ON position (don't start the car)
-Change the ODO/Trip meter to ODO.
-Turn the key to off for a few seconds, then back ON again (again, don't start it)
-(This step might require your assistant) Within 6 seconds of turning the key to the ON position, press and hold the ODO knob and fasten the driver's seat belt
-As soon as the seat belt is fastened, the readout should change from the mileage to b-ON. Press the ODO knob one time and the readout should change to b-OFF
-Once the desired setting is reached (b-ON will chime, b-OFF will NOT chime), sit and wait for the LCD to show the mileage again.
-Once the mileage is displayed, you're done and can turn the car off

If you miss ANY step, this process will not work. I also read that while this works on all Gen 5's, it MIGHT work on the Gen 6's. This hasn't yet been confirmed.

i have a 2003 SE and mine has no chime...just an indicator on the dash
and the code you posted above is what normally works...if that doesnt work for you, take it to the dealer and theyll hook it up to the computer and disable it for you

i dont wanna sound like a jerk

but just wear your seatbelt. and dont use the excuse "i put stuff on my seat so thats why i dont want it on"..
Too late :)

There are many reasons why a camry owner might not want to have the seat belt chime active and it is really no one's business but the owner of said camry why they want it disabled. No one should have to come up with 'an excuse' - I want it off, end of discussion.

People that make it their busniness and stand on a soap box about it should join a church and become preachers so they can tell everyone how to live their life and have an audience that really wants to listen.

I keep mine on so that I don't have to tell my passengers to put on their seatbelt. It gets tiring for me to keep reminding them every time we get in. Instead of my voice, I let the dinging annoy them.

Yeah, my front seat passengers always puts their seat belt on - but sometimes they forget and I don't notice so it's nice to have an audible reminder seeing as how you can get a ticket for not wearing your seat belt here.

The chiming definitely makes me want to rip my ears out though, when all I want to do is move my car down the street or into the garage!

You're damn right bro...! :thumbup:i thought i was the only one who thinks like this instead of like another one of the mindless sheep in our country, who are busy child-proofing the whole world -

Example: A new law went into effect in California last month, which stipulates that you cannot smoke in your own car if a minor is in the car at the same time.
I can hear the arguments for/against the law now, but its too late, it's in effect. Perhaps the most important thing is that nobody asked our opinion or put it to a vote, they just passed the law. (Probably for state revenue purposes really) but i am neither for nor against this latest law as while i do smoke sometimes, i dont have any minors riding in the car with me. So the real question is what's the next law? no farting in your own car? Anybody care to guess?

AMEN!!!

[rant]What pisses me off is sports for kids. In baseball (my 8yr old nephew plays) - they dont keep score and everyone gets a trophy. HORSE S**T. You loose, you need to know it. Suicide rate will sky rocket when these bubble wrapped kids have something shi**y happen (ie; get fired).

My daughter is 3 months old, and she will know when she wins/ looses or pass/ fails. If she falls and bangs her head - "that hurts, be more careful" no lawsuits. This 'sue-everyone' society we live in is horrible.

I am sick of this world we've created. If you dont wear your seat belt and you get maimed, too bad, your own fault. If someone spills a drink on you; sh*t happens, it was an accident, get over it. You didnt find a finger in your chili; get a job and pay your bills - dont get the world to pay your way through life. And if your kid is fat, try giving them a salad. If your 6 yr old weighs more than me, theres a problem and its not McDonalds. You aren't forced to live there. Its a free country. Try cooking something healthy.

Ugh. This society we live in disgusts me. [/rant]

...but yeah, that chime is annoying. I wear my belt though.

"Child-proofed world." I like that...I reffer to it as bubble-wrapped...same idea.

Thanks for posting this.

Sometimes when I pickup/drop-off people, we sit in the car and talk for a minute while it's on and the seatbelts are off. In previous cars it would only ding maybe 3 times and that was fine. But because the Camry one goes on for so unbelievably long, I had to disable it. My passengers and I always wear our seatbelts though.

I tried these instructions for my 2007 Camry SE-V6 last year and it didn't work.

Instead, I took mine to the dealer for an oil change and asked them to disable the annoying as all hell audible chime (I was OK with the dash light flashing). Long and short of it was the dealer disabled the audible chime for me no charge.

Allow me to reiterate kenny1773's response to this thread:

"There are many reasons why a camry owner might not want to have the seat belt chime active and it is really no one's business but the owner of said camry why they want it disabled. No one should have to come up with 'an excuse' - I want it off, end of discussion."

Furthermore, if drivers, like me, who have spent several hundred thousand miles on the road throughout the course of their driving experience and are already conditioned to wearing their seatbelts, all the chimes/lights are irrelevant. In the 9 years or so that I've been driving, I've never once *NOT* worn my seatbelt. I don't need the chimes or lights to remind me to fasten my seatbelt, and my passengers always wear theirs. The bottom line, once again, is that it's no one's business but mine as to why I want my chime disabled.

Okay, I dont know what I'm missing here, it seems so simple, but i've tried 10-15 times and cant get it to do anything for me....

I have an 06 Camry LE...

-Get in and shut all the doors. (open get in and shut drivers door, check)
-Do not touch anything, even the brake, simply turn the key to the ON position (don't start the car) (insert key and turn on, check)
-Change the ODO/Trip meter to ODO. (does it matter if it is on ODO already and I cycle past trip a & b back to ODO? even when I am on trip b and go directly to ODO it doesn't work)
-Turn the key to off for a few seconds, then back ON again (again, don't start it) (turn the key to off, wait two seconds, then back on, not working for me. do I need to turn it only to ACC? I turn it all the way past acc to lock, even tried taking the key all the way out.)
-(This step might require your assistant) Within 6 seconds of turning the key to the ON position, press and hold the ODO knob and fasten the driver's seat belt (I can do this on my own no problem, but nothing happens when I click the seatbelt and when I let go of the odo knob it just changes to trip a...)

Haven't made it this far yet :headbang:
-As soon as the seat belt is fastened, the readout should change from the mileage to b-ON. Press the ODO knob one time and the readout should change to b-OFF
-Once the desired setting is reached (b-ON will chime, b-OFF will NOT chime), sit and wait for the LCD to show the mileage again.
-Once the mileage is displayed, you're done and can turn the car off

Am I doing something wrong here or is my car just not compatible with this combination of events?

TIA

sorry, internet crapped out on me while i was posting.

you need to wait 10 seconds AFTER pressing and holding the ODO knob to fasten the seat belt.

- within 6 secs of turning key to ON, press and hold ODO knob
- continue holding ODO knob for 10 secs
- while holding ODO knob, fasten seat belt

that should help, i believe.

thank you!!

that was exactly the problem, it worked perfectly in one try I didn't even need the instructions with all the practice I got doing it just slightly wrong...

maybe the original instructions should be edited to include this bit?

WOOO HOOOOO!!! It worked in my 2005 LE 4cyl. That made my day. I carry stuff in the passenger seat all the time and the computer *THINKS* someone is sitting in the seat. I had to listen to that bell for 30-45 sec.....

Thank you!! And to those that are concerned about seatbelt use....I promise to keep wearing mine. I don't need a bell to remind me. :chug:

WAHOOOOO!

Tried it a long time ago and it did not work.

After seeing the comment to hold the ODO button for 10 seconds and THEN insert the seatbelt, it worked.

No more having to drown out the seatbelt chime or fasten the passenger seatbelt needlessly when putting groceries or my camera gear :Din the front seat.

Thanks for the instructions. That bell was annoying the crap out of me.

FTR, you don't need an assistant. You can hold the belt right above the clip with one hand while holding the ODO peg with your other hand. The seatbelt can be extended for that 10 second wait period so long as it's not touching the metal in the buckle.
