Anybody have any recomendations on alarm systems

Ok I'm looking for a good alarm unit to install in my 99 Camry. Nothing too fancy ( you know the pagers and stuff like that). I want something discrete and works good. I see the alarms they sell on ebay for like $40.00 or so. Are they any good. Also how do the Camry’s take the aftermarket alarm systems.

Are there any good brands/bad brands.

I'm looking to spend no more then $40 or so.

Any recommendations.

40 bucks will pretty much only buy you a bump sensor and a siren. Save up and buy a quality alarm system from viper or some such

Considering people don't pay attention to alarm system going off in cars, you may want to get GPS locator for the car. I don't know who makes it but maybe someone here will know.

Also if you willing to spend $600 and your area supports it, I will also recommend getting a Low Jack for the car too.

You may also want a battery back up siren too. People may just disconnect the battery just to turn off your alarm system.

I don't know if alarm installer still do it but don't have them install a switch to turn off the alarm. Why would they install a swithch? They do that just in case you have the car in the auto shop or velet parking. It's easy to find it and it will be easy for the theives to turn off the alarm system.

When I used to have an alarm system on my really old car, he put in a button that is hidden away under the car. It's hard to find it unless you know where it is.

You may also want motion sensors in the car too. If they break your windows and take stuff out of your car, than your car will be a good target for someone else to get something out of your car.

If you really want to get fancy, there's also alarm system that starts your car. Perfect for summer with AC on and winter with heater on. There is also devices available if someone try to car jack you, pager to let you know if the car alarm going off, etc.

I hope this helps.

^ the auto start only works with auto trannys though. I wouldn't recommend it if you have a manual.

or better yet, you can leave it in first and start up the car ... have a remote door-opener, and the car will drive up to you as you walk towards it

You can wire up a manual to work with remote start.

Save up and go with a viper or something.

Someone installed a small toggle switch hidden on the knee bolster on the bottom. When you leave the car you cut it off. When you try to start the car it won't start unless you flip that switch up. I don't know how advance that is to most car theives. But in my area we have really just break ins and stuff.

ur not gettin anything good for 40 bucks, unless its used. i think most alarms are overrated these days unless u get the gps locator and the keychain alarm. just rig up a kill switch and dont leave valuables in the car or in sight(remove ur stero face plate).
