Crazt question!!

I have a '89 2wd 22re pickup. it recently was making a noise from valve cover. i removed the valve cover and there was a bearing (possibly spacer) loose beside the rod! well i put i back together and there is another ticking, rubbing sound coming from down below (the oil pan possibly) and my truck barely runs!!! has ir porbably screwed something up bad or could putting the missing part back on whever it goes fix it? by the way i have absolutely no idea where it goes. i know its alittle out there but please help if you can!!!!

Shane Do U mean the rocker arm, Thers no push rods on a 22re. Anyway This so called bearing, was it a lock nut from 1 of the rocker arms? R all 8 rocker arms there! There is a sticky about worn out rocker arm assemblys, and how to replace shims, springs, etc. if the rocker arm isnt centered on the cam lobes it can lead to poor running to a lost of function from from 1 or more cylinders or severly degraded running. Im @ a lost for the knocking in the bottom end as I dont recall a bearing from the top of the head that would appear as one! Did a seat fail on one cylinder and drop and valve being struck by the piston pounding it, engine sounds r funny and can seem like its comming from somewhere else. Take a ratchet and a extention and use it like a stethoscope, unless you have a mech scope, Post with findings, well go from there!

Can you post a pic? It sounds like a spacer to me. I'm guessing it is the spacer on the intake side between cylinders 2&3, which are known to wear out prematurely.

Yeah it looks like a spacer. i have not yet tried to pinpoint the sound yet but will do that first thing tomorow morning, but from what i hear it sound like piston hitting or something. yeah my bad i meant rocker arms. and all valves are moving correctly that is the first thing i checked.
