250 miles on the new Access Cab 2.7 4x4 base model, all I need.
I am just surprised with what I guess is low gearing, staying in gears later, 3-4000 rpm. My only problem is with having to shift into first for slow speed stuff, when with most cars you would stay in second.
I run into that problem when the truck was new. Now I have 26k on it and the shifting in to first is just as easy as any manual tranny I have owned. You will get use to it.
I have the '05 5 speed 2.7L, it is VERY irritating how the 1st gear is more of a granny gear, but I'm having an easier time getting it in first around 5mph now.
Everyone check your transfer case for leaks. My '05 is leaking, the dealership is fixing it tomorrow.
By far, the widest ratio 5 speed I've ever seen. 1st gear is a stump-puller and 5th justs cruises along on the interstate at low rpms; beautifully spaced, too. It really goes well with the 4 banger. I love it.
+1
My only complaint is downshifting to first. Maybe it's because of being such wide ratio.
I usually just use fist gear when moving from a complete stop. If i happen to have any inertia at all on the truck i keep it on second and it's smooth even at very low speeds. I know what you mean about the downshifting to first though... taking out the clutch feels like im slamming on the brakes... work on matching rpms a little more
first gear in toyotas are very low, but not granny geared like mentioned above. anyone who has ever driven a granny geared truck would know. you don't down shift into a granny gear. you stop, then put it in gear.
i can't remember the gear ratio in the tranny for first, but seems like it's 3.something to 1. it is very low, but not unmanageably low. at least you can get up to 20 mph before you have to shift.
