To all : I have a 1985 Supra ( non turbo ) w/ 180k miles...Last year , the engine started to loose compression in 1st thru 3rd gears...The shop replaced the crankshaft pulley...They said the pulley was warped...Now , a year later , same condition , but now ,they ( same shop ) say that the crankshaft itself is " out of tolerence "...They also say that the chankshaft can not be removed & " turned "...The shop says that I will need a replacement engine...My question to this group is : Does this sound reasonable or am I just getting hosed ?? Thanx in advance to any responses...
Well...Maybe loosing compression wasn't the correct term to describe the situation , but in order to run thru the gears ( 1st thru 3rd ) I would have to floor the gas pedal ( literally )...If I did not floor the gas , the engine would stall...
Here's a little more info , people...Engine : 5M-GE 6 cyl in-line...Some history : About 3-4 years ago , the timing belt broke & was replaced ( by same shop that replaced the crankshaft pully & now says that the crankshaft is out of tolerence )...
Welcome to the Nation! Sounds fishy to me, but then again I have heard of that before. i would try to see if they put the pully on just a little off balance, that could cause somthing like that to happen. Let us know what happens!
