Lost of reverse is caused by:
defective overdrive C0 clutch or defective direct clutch.
the first problem is corrected by removal of side transmission cover and changing the C0 clutch pack( the transmission stays in the car) the second problem requres the complete tear down and rebuild.
Many owneres of camrys with 541e transaxle had it repaired at about 130 kmi. These transaxles are too weak for the engine. Making them stronger will overload the front end.

Do you know if a manual transmission would go into this car without any modifications. I know, of course, that it would need a petal, clucth, possible flywheel change, etc.
