I love toyotas and i HATE teenagers

So yesterday, i was driving in town and i noticed this weird noise that sounded like something was flapping against my tire. so when me and my sister got to wally world, i got out and checked it out. i couldn't find a single thing that was even close to the tire. so we went into walmart and got our stuff and came out and left. it was still making the sound so i stopped in a parking lot and took an even closer look to the axle and the surrounding areas. i still couldn't find anything wrong so i drove home some of the way going very slow. when i got on the highway the sound went away so i went about 60. then when i was turning on to a street, my wheel came off! i heard a pop and instantly i was like well crap, before i had time to do anything, my back end was on the ground, scraping the pavement. so i pulled off the road and got my tire that gone down the highway, thankfully not hitting any cars, being the middle of coming home from work hour. I started to jack up my truck and put the tire back on and someone with a Hi-Jack helped me get it up and we put the wheel back on with some lug nuts that my dad brought. so yeah, i'm convinced that it was some stupid kids or kid that loosened them because i tighten those things down till they won't tighten anymore so they definetely shouldn't have come loose. really pisses me off that someone would do something so dangerous to someone elses property. i mean me and my sister could have died or killed someone else! But the good part is that it's a toyota and i checked all the brakes and wheel and axle and pretty much everything in the general area and there is absolutely nothing damaged except for my fender which was bent around by the tire. i'm pretty sure that if it were a different, not as well made truck it would have screwed something up cause i slid on the ground for a good 15-25 Ft on my drum. and it stayed on for about 8-10 miles without falling off. well anyways that's my exciting story of the week so i'll get off my soapbox now.

I always go at everything like that w/ a 2ft breaker or stand on the tire iron, just in case.

I understand the seriousness of the situation but there is no need to instantly jump to the conclusion that a teenager had to have loosened your lugnuts hoping your wheel would fall off as you're driving down the road. Doesn't that seem a bit out there? Sure it's "possible", but I'd say it's highly unlikely and that there is no need to "hate" teenagers because of it.

I'd say someone did mess with it. There are 6 lugs...even if one loosened, that would put more pressure on the other threads...making it harder for the lugs to "fall off" or loosen on it's own.

This guy is probably a teenager himself...and has reason to believe that someone who knows him did this. What i'd do...play it cool, and don't tell anyone about it. If someone starts asking around about it...you know you either have the culprit, or a good lead. Then take that breaker bar and loosen his knees up a little bit.

Only if the other five were torqued to spec or more. If they're loose they'll work themselves off...

you'd be correct that i am a teenager myself (16). i'm pretty sure that someone did it. not sure when or where but someone did. i don't have many people who don't like me and know where i live or what kind of truck i drive. although there is one guy who i had a little run in with his girlfriend but he doesn't know where i live and doesn't come into town very often and neither do i. but i almost wonder if it was just a friend trying to be funny or something. if i find out who it is i prolly will loosen up their knees and then some.

just sounds like too much of a coincedence. The only other time i've heard of a wheel randomly coming off...turned out to be sabatage on a friends WRX. All of his wheels "came loose" at the same time after leaving campus one day.

^^now that was definetley a prank or something. my mom wants me to check my lugs pretty much everytime i go somewhere now. but now that i know what that sound is i'll just get out look around and tighten my lugs if they're loose. and i don't really hate them just really, really dislike the stupid ones. i live in a stupid hick town 30 miles west of Ft Worth and so pretty much the national passtime is to get drunk at parties and go play pranks on peoples stuff. maybe go to wally world and walk around.

okay so i have established that this is not my week. two days ago i was on my home to take a shower before my youth group met for wednesday, i was on a really narrow road with a huge ditch right on the side. i looked down at my ipod or something and when i looked up, i was on the grass and i blinked and i was in the ditch. the ditch was about 3-4 deep with really steep sides by like 5-7 feet wide. i hit it going about 30 or 35 and once i got out i found that the only things damaged were the front plastic things on the bumper got riped off, the sides of the bumper had gotten bent a little, the passenger side mirror got damaged so i took it off, and my alignment is off (i hope that's all it is). so yeah i freaking LOVE my truck. if any other newer truck had gone in that ditch at the speed i was, i can almost garantee that it would have had a lot more damage. and a car would have been totalled most likely, once they got it out. this lady who saw me go in drove up and was freaking out, she was all like OMG! are you all right, do you need to call a tow truck or anything? i told her yes i was fine and no i don't need a tow truck. i could have gotten out on my own if i had gotten at the right angle but in the interest of time i just had someone i knew pull me out and i drove home.

yeah I hate teens too, matter of fact, I lost my freshly paid off Nissan because of a stupid teen not paying attention on a slick road. And on the topic of wheels falling off, I had that happen on the front wheel of a moving van rental on the freeway, going 65, full of heavy custom made furniture They were loose, and a few studs broke, lucky the whole wheel didn't come off! If it was malicious, you oughtta know who is that hateful of you, I don't recommend retaliation, if you figure it out, I'd charge the bastard with attempted murder.
