I love my car. Someone hit me in the front pass side fender and the damage is $3600. They are going to total my car. I have read a lot about older cars and "Total reimbursment", doesn't sound good. I am afraid they are going to say "here is a $1,000 and see you later". It runs beautifull but needs paint and now a new fender, etc. Anyone had any experience with this? I have this fear of standing there with a $1,000 check in my hand as they leave with my car. I can't replace it for that. Anyone have any experience with this or worse yet, any experience with the other guys insurance, "GEICO". I have read they are the worst.

Went through this about 1 1/2 years ago - was driving a '95 Olds 88, someone backed into me - at an intersection !!! - , and did $32XX damage (broke headlight, cracked fender, broke turn signal lens, and slightly bent hood....car was fully functional, but they totalled it) I was given what they said was fair value ...$26XX....took that money, added some pocket $$$ and bought my used (and way cooler) '92 Celica GT convertible. Sorry to say, but .... older cars are seen as disposable items, as the cost to repair even minor accidents is greater than the value of the car. sorry...and it sux !!!
They totaled it....paid me off and I bought a 95gt. The P.O. just spent $900 on timeing belt, pulley, water pump, seals, etc. Im a happy camper. After reading your posts I did a lot of research on car value...this helped a lot at the bargaining (arguing) table. All I need is to find a interior fuse box cover in black. Thanks again.
2695. They started at 2200. They use a car value company that gets a list of similar cars, except their list included cars without a motor, etc. I brought my own list and we came to an agreement.
