Does anyone has knowledge whether the wirings for backup camera are in placed even the option is not ordered?
Wife would like to add a DIY backup camera to out new 08 HL base. Would be nice if there the wirings for the camera are already there. Then, I just have to replace the existing clock/screen. If not, I may be have go with a wireless approach (VR3 or Audiovox ACA250).
I don't believe that Base has camera wiring, since camera is not offered as an option on Base. I wanted to add a camera myself and was thinking about this
But your selection is nice. BUT i checked, the don't have it for the 07 + 08 HL model.

That mirror is universal. If you read reviews below, somemone installed it in 2007 Toyota Tacoma. As long as mirror mounting fits it will work out for 08 HL.
I have just ordered Audiovox rvmpkg4 for $99 + 15ship from this on-name (to me) car-sound dealer. This only reason I went with this dealer is the price. http://www.ikesound.com/
At the end, I think 4" screen the Audiovox has is big enough. Besides, I like the "stealth" installation of a 4" screen integrated onto a OEM-sized (11") mirror. I also want to stick with a "better-known" brand - Audiovox ( LOL....)
I have also found someone posted his experience and installation on this forum. http://forum.ih8mud.com/80-series-te...ll-w-pics.html
Many Audiovox models on the market have been discontinued - including the one I've purchased.
Now the big question about the installation. The most direct path for wiring would be right down the middle, under the roofliner. Anyone have experience in snaking wires under the roofliner? Or taking out the roofliner first is better?

Yes, I saw that resellerrating too. Yike! I hope they'll send me the correct model or any model ;-) I used Paypal to somewhat "protect" on purchase. Also this seller do a lot of business at eBay, and they have much better rating there. Speaking of eBay, the "older" model RVMPKG3 is going for around $100-120.
- I am pretty sure the mirror does not have auto dimming. Some reviewers said the mirror has a natual darker tint(that they don't really like). Come to think of it, the HL's mirror is pretty dark too.
- the camera has sound pick up as well, hence the speakers on the mirror. Also, in theory, the second video input accept other A/V input too.
So assuming I do get the camera (lol), should I try to snake the wires under the middle of the roofliner?

Edit: Actually this reviewer was wrong. This system comes with a Roselsa CCD with infrared rather than the generally cheaper CMOS camera.
I could be wrong. According to the reviewer posted over ih8mud.com, the camera does have night vision: " the camera is ¼” CMOS Sensor, color, same resolution as the screen with a wide viewing angle of 130 degrees. .....It’s pretty heavy for its size with a metal water proof housing. Minimum illumination is .3 Lux." The camera came with 3 LCD lights on each side of the lens.
Again according this this poster, both models are the same except the G4 model has a LCD on/off trigger from the backup light. But that's all know.
First thing first, I need to receive the goods from this dealer ;-). It is a $100 gamble/experiment.
