2010: Gonna be our first Toyota!

My wife and I are coming from an '02 Pontiac Grand AM -- over 200k and numerous costly repairs needed. Loved the car.. but not worth $ to fix.

Obviously we need a new vehicle and reliability is most important to us. We have decided on the '10 Corolla CE.

I don't seem to be able to find a PDF of the owners manual online anywhere... I just find the brochures.

What are things I should know about coming into "Toyotaville"?

Secondly, I have seen threads about a recall that occured... how can I make sure that the car has had this fixed?

Thanks

As far as the recall is concerned, corolla's are not part of it.

Trying to think of stuff you should know about coming into a toyota... Well just check some of the reviews. Toyota's get very good reviews. Plus great resale value compared to a Pontiac.

Other than that welcome and im sure people here could answer any question that comes your way.

For the recall, and if you bought the vehicle used, check the service records to see if it had already been done. If new, just take it into the dealership on your next oil change or whenever, they'll do the required work free of charge. I unexpectedly had mine done when i took mine in, and i live in California :P Welcome to the 4 banger club!

if your 2010 corolla would be stamped as manufactured after the recall period i guess it has been fixed. regarding a pdf of the owners manual, it is too early to find one if ever toyota will issue such a format. ever since i joined this forum more than a year and a half ago i have read so many threads in here about weird noises and rattles related to manufacturing or assembly of the car itself. luckily i have yet to hear one on my 09 corolla. other than those i just love my car and i am glad my wife and i decided to buy a corolla.

I personally would want confirmation and their computer record updated on an item like this...Not some one sticking his/her head in to have a look, especially since braking is/could be involved!
If the recall was done one would think it would show up on the dealer's computer as soon as the VIN is input. (presuming a dealer can link to a master database on Toyota's server.

Somewhere...there is a record of work done! (definitely at an authorized Toyota service dept!)

I also looked high and low for a pdf manual on the web and was not successful....only sections were available on the Toyotausa website.

I like having manuals on my pc, to save me a trip to the garage to look at the supplied paperback version for some info if needed.

There was also a TSB on some sort of start up noise if you want to check it all! These are very "clean" vehicles from all I could learn.

I bought my 2010 on August 14 and took it in for the first Sept 27, seems like the brake item was done at the factory. They must have known prior to the recall announcement.

I don't like the way the manuals are on their web site I wish it were just one pdf and not broken down into sections, very hard to navigate.

I sincerely wish you good luck on your Corolla. There are too many issues that I faced already, such as water pump leaks, rattles all around the interior, cant even start the car.
Last but not least, I still havent received anything about the recall, and I need to go to Boston in this winter (wish me luck guys).

WOW! Knock on wood but I've owned Toyota's for 30 years and I've never had issues like you've had with your Corolla. Granted, not every car is going to be perfect but I've only had to deal with normal wear out items. Toyota quality has always been fantastic for me.

Hey everyone!

Well looks like financing went through okay, so we will be getting the car most likely on monday!

As I said before, I'm coming from a Grand AM (V6 3.4L engine) and I know it will be an adjustment haha. The test drive we took was great. We also learned that our car was manufactured in October of this year, so I'm hoping (assuming doesn't get one far all the time) that everything will be a-ok

The money saved on gas and just knowing of the quality (longevity) of the vehicle is what really excites me.

Thanks.

Welcome to TN. I hope your new Toyota will be as wonderful to you as mine have been to me for the past 30 years!

Welcome to the Toyota club. I hope you have a great experience with your Corolla. I know these new ones pretty well now and so far I can't say they've disappointed, me at least. lol
