Compiled Working Instructions for 5.1, 6.1 and 7.1 OVERRIDE Camry 2007, 2008, 2009

Works my 2009 Camry SE with 7.1 DISK

Read Instructions Below. (thanks durham2atl and pillpusher84 and others)

This will allow you use all of the touchscreen function even while in motion. This makes using the GPS and selecting audio files from MP3 Cds much easier.

-----------------------------------------------------------------|
|
Requirements:

Hardware:
A moderately powerful computer running windows XP or Vista
16 Gygabytes of free Harddrive space (7.5 gigs for the folder, 7.5 gigs for the ISO file)
Memorex DVD+R DL (DOUBLE LAYER/DUAL LAYER) other may work.
Double Layer DVD Burner ( I use an LG burner Any should work)

Software:
Imgburn – will be used to make the ISO and burn the ISO(freeware, download link below)
http://www.imgburn.com/index.php?act=download

Files:
Original 5.1, 6.1 or 7.1 Stock Navigation DVD
Downloaded 5.1 LOADING.KWI file (download link below)(thanks pillpusher84)
http://rapidshare.com/files/13127620...g.kwi.zip.html

Tools:
Ratchet Set or Crescent Wrench or Pliers
|
-----------------------------------------------------------------|

-----------------------------------------------------------------|
|
Creating the hybrid DVD,

1. Create a folder on you Desktop named camry_dvd
2. Put the Original Navigation 5.1, 6.1 or 7.1 DVD into the DVD Burner (yes, burner)
3.Open My computer, then double click on the DVD Drive that has the Original Disk in it.

4. in the main/root folder of the original dvd goto Edit and select “select all” then in the same menu press copy.

5. Open the Folder on the Desktop called camry_dvd
6. Goto Edit and select paste (this will take a while, 10-40 mins, maybe more)
7.Once completed, delete the file in the camry_dvd folder named LOADING.KWI
8. Navigate to where the 5.1 LOADING.KWI file was downloaded.
9. Right click on the LOADING.KWI file and select Copy.
10. Open the camry_dvd folder and goto Edit and select Paste

Next we build the ISO using ImgBurn 2.4.1.0 (ISO = disk image file),

1. Open ImgBurn after it is installed.
2. From Mode menu, select Build.
3. In the Source panel, click the Browse for a Folder icon. Right side, graphic button looks like a folder and a magnifying glass. A Browse for Folder dialog box appears.

4. Navigate to the desktop, click once on the folder named camry_dvd, then Click OK.
5. In the Destination panel, click the Browse for a file icon. The Save As dialog box appears. Click the Desktop button then enter camry_iso for the name.

6. Click Save.

7. We are about to create an 8 Gig file, make sure to have room. Close all programs that aren’t needed. This could take an hour. Once we start don’t touch your computer even if it looks crashed. Just wait.

8. Click the Icon below the destination field that looks like a “folder, arrow, and DVD on paper”
9. If you get a popup about root folder Choose YES
10. If you get a second popup about the dvd name Choose YES
11. If you get a third popup about files Choose OK
12. Once finished you will have an file named camry_iso.ISO and another name camry_iso.MDS.
|
-----------------------------------------------------------------|

-----------------------------------------------------------------|
|

Next, We will burn the ISO to a Memorex DVD+R DL DVD,

1. From ImgBurn, select the Mode menu, and then select Write.
2. In the Source panel, click the Browse for a File icon. A Browse for File dialog box appears.

3. Navigate to the Desktop, Click on camry_iso.MDS
4. Click Open.
5. Don’t change any settings
6. Put your Memorex DVD+R DL DVD into your burner
7. Click the Write icon. (looks like a “folder, arrow, and DVD on)

Congratulations –
you should have your hybrid DVD.
|
-----------------------------------------------------------------|

-----------------------------------------------------------------|
|
Finally, we install the firmware,

1.Put the key in the car and turn to ON (we never start the engine for the entire Install)
2.Eject the Map DVD if any.
3.Insert the Newly burned Memorex DVD+R DL DVD
4.Close the Navigation Screen back to its normal position
5.Roll Down the Driver side window
6.take the key out of the ignition, then slide it back into the ignition BUT DO NOT TURN IT!
7.Pop the hood of the car.
8.Disconnect the Negative/Black Battery Terminal. DO NOT TOUCH THE POSITIVE/RED TERMINAL!
9.Wait 5 Minutes
10.Reconnect the Negative Battery Terminal.
11.Close the Hood
12.Get in the Car and turn the Key To ON.
13.DO NOT TURN OFF THE CAR!
14.Wait 5 minutes the screen may say “no dvd found” but give it time.
15.It will load up the GPS map if all was done correctly.

|
-----------------------------------------------------------------|

-----------------------------------------------------------------|
|
The Code,

To enable the over ride you must, EVERY TIME THE CAR IS STARTED, enter a “code”
  • Press the hard ‘MENU’ button on the left side of the Nav screen.
  • Press the volume Icon
  • Here is where we enter the “code” by pressing on the left 2 corners of the screen.
  • Upper left corner, lower left corner, upper left corner, lower left corner,
  • You are now in the Service Menu
  • Here press and hold the ‘override’ button until it beeps.
  • press upper right hand corner to exit
  • ALL DONE! Don’t fuking crash
|
-----------------------------------------------------------------|

-----------------------------------------------------------------|
|
Trouble Shooting:

If you play with too many settings in the Service Menu then you will probably crash your navigation system. If it used to work, but then after trying to exit, reset then locked up. You are OK. Just turn off the car. Turn it back on. Press the eject hard button. Then press the DVD Map eject button. The screen will slide open. If the dvd doesn’t come out. Press the eject icon on the screen again, even though the screen is open and hard to see.

Also, If you have a hybrid Camry I guess you dont have a battery under the hood. If this is the case then you need to remove the power fuse that is connected to the head unit for 5 minutes. Then put it back in. do everything the same except the part where you disconnect the battery, wait, then reconnect it.

-----------------------------------------------------------------|

Sounds like this but more detailed - http://www.toyotanation.com/forum/sh...57&postcount=9

However the installing of firmware part with removing the terminals is optional but a definite fix. But from the link I just posted, it never mentioned about the code having to be entered everytime the car is started.

All it is is a more detailed version. step by step. 100% confirmed to work with 2009 camry with 7.1 disk. just trying to do my part.

few images:

the I Agree nag Screen

press the 'Menu' hard button to get to this screen

Press the volume icon to get to this screen

enter "code" to get to this screen

notice the ROM is 5532 and the disk is 7.05.10. this means the ROM/Firmware is 5.x and the MAP Data is 7.x

disk info

load/eject screen

one of a few different error screen

I will be trying to improve this hack.

I will try to remove the 'I Agree' nag Screen
I will try to make 'OVERRIDE' enable by default
I will try to Personalise the software so it is cooler.

I will attempt this by modifying the LOADING.KWI file. If I am sucessful I will post it here. check back soon.

I'm not complaining. Just informing those that this is a more detailed version and with pictures. I appreciate it as I will be needing this when I get mine. Hopefully the 2010 version will not have a modified nav system.

Keep us posted on the override default and personalizing it.

I dont remember reading this on the other thread but than again, I could be wrong since there is so many posts. Can those who have already done this confirm that you have to do this override everytime you start up the car. It is annoying if you have to do this all the time.

Smile 5.1 & 6.1 combined disk

I followed the instructions downloading the loading.kwi 5.1 file and then using my 6.1 disk with imgburn (free version) and my hp dvd writer (does double layer). I used memorex double layer +r disks from radio shack ($4.99 for a 3 pack) and the disk works perfectly. I just removed the radio fuse for a couple of minutes and it loaded fine. Tested it today - all works as it should. Hope it works also with the next upgrade for the map!

I was able to make the hybrid disc but it seems the nav works slow and sometimes will just freeze up until I turn the car off and back on. I also have noticed that this usually happens when the region for the map is not selected. Instead of showing a map with the region seleceted it just empty no map or anything. Any body else having trouble like this
