I added cruise control to my 2006 Corolla 5 spd today. Got the parts from Rock Auto, cruise control stalk was $31.79 and switch for clutch was $13.28. The car is already wired even being the CE model. All I had to do was remove airbag, drill a hole for the stalk and plug in, also added the switch to the clutch pedal. Dealer wanted $400 to do it. The car even has the factory cruise light in the dash which lit up when I first turned it on. Complete directions and pictures of how to do it can be found on Matrix Owners.com

Because Matixowners is shut down, here is a snapshot from the internet archive.

Since I have a manual, here's the part I was interested in:

For the 5-speed Matrix owner, read on.

10. Clutch switch.
Apparently all 5-speed Matrixes not made in America do not have the clutch switch installed. Since Matrixes are supposedly all made in Canada (like mine) they all need the switch.

Get on your back under the dash, look up top where the clutch pedal lever ends and remove the bolt and nut that act as a clutch pedal return stop. You may have to remove the dashboard change drawer (lower left of the steering wheel) to gain access with a socket and extension to this bolt.

Now install the clutch switch where you removed the bolt. After adjusting the switch for proper engagement, tighten the lock-nut. There is a wire assembly under your dash that has to plug into the new clutch switch. Mine was dangling free next to the clutch pedal lever against the firewall. Plug in that wire assembly to the new clutch switch. (If you think you already have a clutch switch, you may be looking at a starter interlock switch. New pics are shown later in this thread showing the difference in the switches.)

Clutch switch wires and plug as found under dash.

Hook your battery back up. Clean your car up and go for a test drive!!
:P

When all is well, set your radio back up, and if you got that annoying seat belt beep back again go here for that procedure. http://matrixowners....showtopic=45649

This job took me about 3 honest hours due to getting all my tools out, figuring out how to make the steering wheel cover hole, figuring out where the clutch switch went, taking pics, cleaning everything up, and resetting my non-factory head unit.

Here is what I found in other site. copy and paste. forgot where the source at, because that was saved in my msword file. Credit goes to whoever made that first. I added some parts numbers in the message below tho.

DIY: OEM Cruise Control

Since people have not been able to find my post on installation of OEM cruise control that I embedded in another thread, I'll make it so it's easy and so it can be listed in the DIY sticky

Alright! After waiting nearly 3 months, I finally ordered my parts and tried it out on my 4-cylinder to see if it would work, and it did! All the safety features work (clutch switch, brake switch) and the stalk works perfectly. The kicker is, if you are even somewhat electrically/mechanically inclined, this "mod" is cheaper than that crap aftermarket system that requires you to cut wires.

Here's what you'll need to order for this to work:

84632-08021 ACDELCO D1919E Cruise control switch(this is the stalk)
45186-0C020-B1 Steering wheel cover (order based on your steering wheel cover color) (no idea you need this or not if you cut your own hole.)
88280-14030 Clutch switch ACDELCO D2240CClutch Interlock Switch or AIRTEX Part # 1S5850 w/Man. Trans. (Clutch Pedal Mounted, Cruise Control Cutout) (only needed if you have a manual transmission)
84633-04020 Cruise control wire (this is what connects the stalk to the steering wheel spinal)
90080-15079 1/2" 10/32 screws (you could save some money and get these at a hardware store.
Here's the tools you'll need:

T-30 Hex driver
10mm socket (long)
3" extension
Socket wrench

And the disclaimer: I cannot be responsible for any damages that may occur because of your negligence. Please be careful and have someone qualified to do this if you are unable or unwilling.

EDIT: The following information pertains to this post.

The pictures and part numbers are not for the Corolla. It is obviously a truck in the pictures and the wiring and steering wheel cover is slightly different.

Having it be the first post with pictures in a Corolla forum in a thread about 9th generation Corolla cruise seems a little misleading to me. It is a good general overview but it should be noted the Corolla install is not EXACTLY the same and the most importantly, the part numbers are different.

First thing is first, you need to disconnect the battery.

Then remove the side panels of the steering wheel with a screwdriver. Be careful because they scratch really easy. Put the tip to the screwdriver in closest to you. A write up of the next couple steps can be found here. Special thanks to Hank6500 for the how to.

Then remove the screws that hold the airbag in place. They are the T-30 Hex screws. Remove the clips behind the airbag carefully with a screwdriver and remove the ground at the bottom of the airbag.

Here's what it should look like once you remove the airbag completely:

Now you need to remove the wire that was the ground on the airbag. It has a white connector into the steering spinal. Remove that and replace it with the new one you ordered. The connector that is attached to that wire will go into the cruise control stalk. Slide the stalk in like shown below and tighten the screws. It should fit right into position.

Once you get the stalk secure, put the wire into the stalk, and put all the wires connecting the airbag bag on. Then bolt the airbag back into place and snap your covers back on. Here's what the final product will look like:

If you have an automatic transmission, you are done. But if you have a manual, you'll need to install the clutch switch. I have very generic directions on how to access the area you'll need to get to.

You'll need to find this connector underneath. It'll be taped up, but it shouldn't be too difficult to get undone. This is the clutch switch wire.

The clutch switch will go in the circle seen below. It was a complete bitch to get in this area, but even with my large hands, I was still able to access it. Take note of the distance from the top of the plate to the bottom of the blank nut. You'll need to have the same distance when you put the clutch switch in its place.

You'll probably need to remove the lower dash panel to access the clutch switch (and beleive me, it's easier!). Here's how to remove the lower dash panel to get to that switch. Thanks to remelad from TTORA. Remove the 4 bolts that attach the fuse block. Then move it out of the way and you'll be able to see where the clutch switch is supposed to be.

It's hard to get a pic, but this is the best that I came up with.

Here's the bolt that will be taken out and replaced with the clutch switch. Make sure after you screw the clutch switch into place you connect the connector to the switch. Otherwise the cruise will not work (because it'll sense that the clutch is being pressed).

where you order the Clutch Switch for 13 bucks:confused:

Hi,

If like me you received the stalk switch but not the cultch pedal switch yet, you can use a small wire to create a jumper in the clutch switch connector.

This way, the car will ALWAYS see the the clutch pedal NOT pressed down. So be careful and remember to cancel the cruise control first by using the brake pedal or the stalk switch itself.

Have fun

For the '07 (probably all 9th gen drive by wire corollas) I show the following:

Cruise Stalk (Switch) - 84630-02041 (Toyota) or 1S10723 (Airtex/Wells) or SW8084 (Duralast/Autozone). Rockauto has this in Airtex/Wells for $123.79 plus about $8 or so in shipping. Autozone has it in Duralast for $204. I can't find it at Amazon.

Clutch Switch - 88280-14030 (Toyota) or 1S5850 (Airtex/Wells) or NS151 (Standard) or JA4483 (Duralast/Autozone). Rockauto has this in Airtex/Wells for $15.00 plus about $3 shipping. Rockauto also has this in Standard for $12.69 plus about $2 shipping. Autozone has it in Duralast for $21. Amazon has it in Standard for $16.88 with free shipping (if you buy over $25 in stuff).

Sorry to resurrect an old thread, but I saw someone pose the same question I have and not receive a response. Is this possible to do on a pre-drive-by-wire Corolla like my 03 CE? Are there any differences in the process/parts needed if it is at all possible?

Since the '03/'04 models do not have an electronic throttle actuator then a servo will have to be installed that can "push the gas pedal" for you when you engage the cruise control.

It's a lot more complicated and a much more expensive procedure. I'd highly recommend looking into aftermarket cruise control kits for these models if you're serious about it.

hello to all and sorry to ask for this matter again.
I´m in Argentina and have a Corolla Turbo Diesel 2.0, 9th gen (2006), M/T.
Please, could you tell me if the ECU that Brazilians used for our Diesel Corollas are the same that TMMC uses for yours? Do you know how can I find it?:help:
As you can imagine, I really want to add the CC to my car but I have some doubts about if I am able to do it. Dealers here do not offer the option, at least for my model. Also, if you see local Corollas (made in Brazil), the CC switch is located to be used with the left hand, but the switch itself is the same. To be more accurate, the CC switch is like a mirror of yours.
But I think the real problem is about the ECU and if it´s capable/programmed just to plug and play the CC switch (with the clutch switch too).
I will appreciatte your help!!!
thanks in advance!

Another thing is that the pictures about clutch switch connections are not available, aren´t them? please, could you resend to me? they would be very helpfull in order to install that piece.
Thanks again!

Re: Clutch switch pics etc

I agree-- I am about to do this installation, and can't see many of the pics. I don't think I'll have a problem locating the placement of the clutch switch, but need help determining whether my 2014 Corolla L (manual) has a plug wired and ready to attach to the clutch switch.

Any help would be great!

Thanks--
Brian

Ummm... this guide is for 2005-2008 Corollas. I'm not sure if the 2014 is even close to the same setup.
