Hey folks, new to the site.

I'm looking to buy a used tacoma. ive got about $5,000 and was thinking something from the mid 1990s.

Does anyone know if there is a model year that stands out as better than the others from this time period, say 1992-1997. Or any model years that have problems.

Im looking for a 4wd, v6, extra cab, and preferably manual.

Any info would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Well, considering Toyota has a buy-back campaign on 96-00 Taco's do to extensive frame rust, be sure you inspect the frame very closely. They don't all suffer from it, so don't rule out one from that time period completely.

Oh, and the first year for a Taco is 96. :)

if the truck has always lived in cali you prolly won't have a problem with rust...

89-95 was the last gen of the Pickup, Tacoma was from 96 on...they've had a few changes over the years but are all good trucks...lots of specific info on here if you do a search. with only 5k to spend your gonna probably end up with a pretty high mileage truck if you go with a Tacoma, especially in cali. You may want to look into the Pickup (hilux) generation as well...just a thought. You may still get high miles, but if you really want a 4x4 you'll prolly get more bang for your buck with an older truck. Tacoma you may end up settling for a prerunner with that budget. But who knows what you'll come across.

And :welcome: to TN!
