New to Toyota...Questions about T100
I'm new to Toyota's and I'm looking at a 96 T100. It has 123K, V6, 5speed 4x4 DX. I'm looking for a vehcile that can possibly be a daily runner. Just curious about the reliability of a vehicle with this mileage and some things that I should be looking for when I look closer at it again.

For a toyota, it barely broken in. These motors can last forever with the right care. Something to look for is the headgasket. They have been known to leak on around those yrs. V6's. IT is also good to try to get some past records on maintenance and new parts for it, if you can.Just let your eyes and ears do the work.

Like nofear said check maintenance records. I own a 1993 t100 3.0 v6. I bought it with 60k on it. I use it as my daily driver and it now has 166K on it. Runs like it did the day I bought it. Toyota motors will run forever if you take care of them.

I took the truck for a test drive, it runs pretty good. There is a noise in the dash that winds up around 2500 to 3000 rpm. Sounds like it could be the tach cable making the noise. The dealer is wanting $6500 for it. It does have a few dents and dings in the body, but nothing a person couldn't live with. I'm going to have it checked out by a local mechanic just to verify its overall condition. If everything looks good after that, I believe I will grab it.

Check and see if the timming belt has been replaced recently. Recommended service is every 60,000 miles. If the truck has 123K on it, it should be due for a second belt. If this has not been done use it as a bargaining chip to lower the price of the vehicle. Cost to have a timming belt replaced is about 500 - 800 dollars depending on where you take it. 6500 is not a bad price. Unless it needs some routine maintenance.
FYI- In this weekends paper I saw an ad for a '96 T100 EXT cab 4x4 w/ 85,000 miles for $6500.
Hope this helps

had the same kind of question
i had this same kind of question when i first joined up here. the t100 was only made for like 2 years then discontinued. its exactly like the tacoma only with a bigger body, same 3.4L v6. you might be better off with tacoma because even though both are really reliable if somehting ever breaks its hard to come by replacement parts for a t100 since they were only around for a short time.

T100's were made from 93-98. 93 and 94's had either 4cyl or a 3.0 v6. 95 and up replaced the 3.0 with the 3.4L v6. In 1999 the Tundra replaced the T100. --my $.02
