I believe the Toyota Design sets the chime off for 45 seconds, the last 10 or 15 are the high rate chime.
I personnally would not like the extra seat belt heads. I do use my seat belt 99% of the time. I would have to pull the head of the seat belt out and then put the OEM head in while driving.
The toyota system does not work by the belt moving by a certain number of inches, but only by engaging the metal head into the unit. The annoying thing that I have noticed over the last few weeks is the chime will not even stop when the car comes to a complete stop and I put it in park.
I'm right with you preskev, I use my seat belt 99% of the time and I check here everyday waiting for you to post the answer. I've been under the dash and it is very tight and cramped. They have it hid well and it would take too much tearing down to get to it. If you get to the buckles and get it done please post it. Thanks.
not sure on the avalon, but i noticed in the sienna, there's just two wires going to the buckle (not the buckle really, but the part that is on teh seat, that the buckle clicks into). I'm guessing if you just hook these two together, it'll keep the seat belt chime from going on forever. Not sure, just a guess.

Yeah you are right, having to plug and unplug the belt heads would be a pain if you were to use the belt sometimes and sometimes not. I thought it could be an option for those that never wear the belt. I should wear mine more than I do but I do wear it about 50% of the time. For me, I am a bit short so it is difficult to reach back over my shoulder to reach it.
yeah it is a lame excuse but it is true
my belt chime does the same as you described. It just appeared that some were having a longer chime than I was having.

Well, no wiring mod is required. Here is the procedure:
1. Set the LCD on the combination meter to the ODO trip.
2. Press and hold the TRIP meter reset knob for ten seconds or more within six seconds of turning the ignition switch to the ON position. Fastening the driver's seat belt while holding the knob cancels the buzzer reminder. (You may have to hit the reset meter knob to cycle through b-ON to b-OFF)
3. When this occurs, the LCD displays "b-OFF". The buzzer reminder can be switched between ON and OFF each time the TRIP meter knob is pressed. The LCD displays "b-ON" or "b-OFF" according to the buzzer reminder ON/OFF status. The display changes to the ODO or trip meter if the knob is not pressed in 10 seconds.
4) Performing steps 1) and 2) again when the buzzer reminder is off exits cancel mode.
I was able to disable the seat buzzer and took a drive. IT WORKs! I am so relieved.
Next step, find a way to disable the RDS block on the NAV display over a certain MPH.
Well I could lie and say I have been pushing every button in the car for the last 3 months...But...
You can access all the necessary manuals for 05 Avalon and other Toyota and Lexus cars at the following address for $10 a day. You can download all the pdfs you want:
I found the info in the Seat Belt Reminder System of the New Car Features Document. I am not happy with Toyota who did not supply this info to me when I requested it.
The day the seatbelt code was posted was the same day I finally persuaded my dealer to change the annoying buzzer set up. Customer Service (a definite oxymoron) at Toyota was just terrible. I was told that they had the procedure but REFUSED to give it to me and they refused to put me through to a supervisor. They told me that the procedure was available in their repair manual, which I could buy, but wouldn't fax me the page. They even went so far as to say that giving me the programming steps was illegal (it isn't) but if it were, why was it in the manual? The next day a supervisor called me and told me that he checked the repair manual and that there was NO WAY the seatlbelt buzzer program could be changed. I'm not sure if that was a fabrication or he was looking at the wrong manual; evidently there are two of them. My dealer told me that Toyota gave him a hard time about changing the program for me. Silly me, I really thought this was MY car. Like most others I also wear my belt 99% of the time, but I don't need a manufacturer coercing me to do it.

Ok, I will be the thick headed one. I could not get this to work. I tried a couple of different ways but I am not real clear about when the key is on vs off.
I tried to turn the key on then hold the odometer clear button in both the trip A and trip B but nothing.
can you help me out a little with some morte detail?
Thanks!
Since you mentioned you have a key, I assume you do not have a limited, which I do. So, I would guess you would do the following:
1) Turn the Car On, Do not start the engine (Leave you foot off the brake). Cycle your trip reset knob until you it reads ODO. Turn the ignition back off. Wait a couple of seconds.
2) Make sure seat belt is not fastened
3) Turn the ignition back on, do not start the car (Leave you foot off the break) As soon as you see everything light up, press and hold the trip reset knob and do a long 12 second count.
3) Keep your finger on the trip reset knob. Fasten your seat belt, as soon as you fasten your seat belt, you should see the ODO display go from XXXX miles to "b-on". At that time take your finger off the trip reset knob and press it again. It should cycle to "b-off". You should be all set and turn the ignition off and unfasten your seat belt. Try that and let me know how it goes.
Thanks for clearing that up for me. I have a Touring model and do not have the keyless system.
I will give it a try later this evening and let you know if I have any luck
Thanks again

This worked the first time I attempted it, Thanks for the extra instruction!
