Update on stats on the 2007 Camry and Lexus IS

Source: Motortrend

Eco-Friendly or performance oriented? Rich and powerful Toyota doesn't have to make a choice, it's playing both ways with optional powertrains for its next-generation Camry and the all-new Lexus IS.

Toyota has pulled forward the launch of the new-generation Camry, with a debut expected for the Detroit show next January, so it can get a V6 Hybrid model to market as soon as possible to compete against Honda's Accord V6 Hybrid.

Toyota had planned to offer a hybrid version of the current Camry, but decided to pull forward the next generation model more sensable then reengineering an old car. (Smart move Toyota)

The new Camry hybrid will also be the first Toyota hybride built outside of Japan. It'll be built alongside regular camrys at Toyota's Georgetown, Kentucky plant. Meanwhile, Toyota is already testing a V8 powered versions of the yet-to-be-launched Lexus IS. The IS concept was shown with a V8 and a shift-by-wire 6-spd sequential shift auto. The radical hood vents caught on the car testing in Nurburgring Norschielfe are the clearest indication yet that a bigbore IS is being prepared to take on BMW's forthcoming M3 and the next-generation M-Benz AMG C-Class.

I can't wait for these goodies.

Good stuff. Thx

I wonder why they added HSD to the current Highlander instead of waiting for the new one. All I can think of is that they want to extend the life of the current one by a year or two until the new one arrives.
