2006 Highlander Gets A Price Bump

Well, looks like there IS a 2006 Highlander.

"The entry-level front-drive, four-cylinder Toyota Highlander has been dropped for 2006 and the remaining models have seen their stickers go up, which will raise the entry-level price for the four-by-four wagon by almost $5,000.

Until just recently (or maybe even still, if you look around), Toyota Canada dealers carried an FWD model with a $32,900.

With that model gone, the entry-level Highlander for 2006 is the 4WD V6 five-passenger model at $37,855, which is up from $36,900 in 2005. The seven-passenger 4WD V6 Highlander starts at $38,905, up from $37,950 in 2005.

If you're interested in getting slightly better fuel economy in a Highlander, there are also a pair of hybrid models available -- a five-seat model for $44,205 and an all-singing version for $53,145."

yep. all the bells and whistles - Limited 4WD-i Highlander Hybrid.

Yes they do. The rear wheels are motivated entirely by an electric motor hence there are no rear differentials and driveshaft which means less weight (although the extra motor may offset that weight loss). The engine and another electric motor power the front wheels.

I just put a deposit down on a Highlander Limited (gas) that is out on the ocean somewhere, on a boat I hope. It is expected at my dealer in Ottawa at the beginning of Oct. I currently have a 2002 Limited model that I just put up for sale with only 43,000kms. I'm still mildly interested in a 4Runner but haven't been able to test drive one yet to see how much harsher the ride is. I don't like what they have done with the 4rUnner's Daytime Running Lights. It looks like they have integrated them into the parking/turnsignal lights. I find that this makes them less visible than if they were on the regular headlights.

Why are you upgrading from a 02 Limited to an 06 Limited? There's only a 3rd row of seat and 17" alloys that make up the differences between the two. Why don't you wait for a redesign? Just curious

I see what you mean with the 4Runner but then it also means your indicators are brighter lol.

My lease is up in March '06. The engine is also slighly bigger 3.3 vs 3.0 in the '02. You are right in saying that are not many differences. I would have preferred a few more. I believe the inside trim has changed a little. Some of the wood trim has been replaced with that metallic look. As well they have finally added that self dimming rearview mirror that I misssed from having in my previous car. If the redesign is similar to the FX concept car than I'm not a big fan of that design. I guess I'm more of a traditionalist.

The salesman said that the base FWD model was dropped because of a lack of demand. He said that there were only 50 of them sold in Canada this past year.

The dealer had a new Sequoia on the lot but no 4Runner yet. If they share the same front end, more or less, and it looks close, then personally, I prefer the more rugged look of the '05. But that is just my opinion.
