Please tell me that I'm not the only one who feels the Highlander now looks so dated that it's just plain fugly?
It totally pisses me off that Toyota has keep this body style for 6 years now.

Yeah they did drop the FWD 4 Cylinder option. But seriously, $36,000 for a 4WD V6 model? Is it really worth the extra $10k over an LE V6 just for an SUV image? I don't recall the 4WD V6 version having anything special over the LE V6 other than trading 15" alloys for 16" steels.
Umm, I think the Highlander looks okay. The original ones might be a bit ugly since I didn't like that big square front when it first came out. I think the Highlander Hybrid looks the best because of the two chrome slats and the extra vent draws attention away from the square front.

What? The Highlander is very competitive, and only came out in 2001.

someone please prove me wrong on this:
it just seems the highlander was for the yuppees who were smart enough not to buy the lexus version for way more?
and i'm wondering, similar to how the coupe version of the camry is named the solara--different name....maybe the highlander is just a camry wagon?..shapped like a suv, meant only for the road(mostly)
maybe that's why we don't have a wagon? *besides no market for a wagon
or the lexus came first and they didn't want to waste the ...i dont' know what to call it...the "design" for lack of a better word. or maybe vice verse? (i'm working off of the camry/es300 cousins, the landcruser and the lexus cousins idea)
someone tell me i'm speaking out of my ass..please.

Highlander is a nice ride, but it needs to be replaced with a new model. 2001 is ancient history.
It was pretty plain looking to begin with, and it looks even plainer now.
When the new RAV4 comes out soon, it's history. The RAV4 will have more power and a bigger V6 and even a 3rd row avail, for less price.

Whoops...first model year was 2001...so was introduced in 2000. Since the 2006's are out then it's only been 5 years. 5 very long years for this model.
As for being competitive...I don't think so. That model is starving to death.

The highlander is still very competitive. It still sits very high on mid size SUV lists. The Highlander is basically a Camry Wagon. It is built on the Camry frame with extra offroad abilities.

Says who? When you slip from 3rd place in 2001 to 5th place in 2003 and 11th place in 2005...you're car isn't selling well.
Time for some new skin on that puppy.

The Highlander may be an old model, but many people still buy them. Toyota sells about 10,000 Highlanders (gas models), this is almost as much as the Honda Pilot. Toyota also sells 3,000 Highlanders (hybrid models) Its not too bad for Toyota, they also have the 4Runner which is in the same catergory.

The only thing the 4Runner and Highlander share is the "midsize SUV" title. They're very different vehicles...RWD/4x4 vs FWD/AWD, V6 vs V8/heavy offroading vs rain.
The Highlander is due to be replaced for 2008, I believe. Another year or two on the block will be fine, especially since Toyota claims to be cutting their inflated (not counting the Prius) hybrid prices so the HH will sell more. I'm sure the new Rav4 will take sales away from it but Toyota will design a better, roomier, more fuel efficient, better looking Highlander soon in a few years.
It is still competitive. It's aging gracefully, IMO. It was never designed to stand out or be flashy, Toyota's designs are always bland, not counting the new Toyotas coming out. My aunt and uncle are getting one.

Yeah, Toyota does a good job at keeping a vehicle competitive. Examples include the old Tacoma (best small truck out there, IMO) Camrys, Highlander, and ESPECIALLY the Land Cruiser.

The Tacoma and Landcruiser are good examples. The Camry is another good example. The last gen Camry wsa built on a platform that was 10 years old. Yet Toyota was still able to put over very good cars/trucks and SUV (Sienna, ES, Highlander, RX, Avalon).

I don't think Toyota's worried about the Highlander. They're concentrating on the Highlander Hybrid and its this model that'll boost sales til the remake. Yes, technically 2006 should be the make over year but looks like Toyota has something else in mind.
