Toyota Motor Sept US Sales Up 10%

03 Oct 05 15:12 TORRANCE, Calif. -(Dow Jones)- Toyota Motor Sales U.S.A. Inc.'s September sales rose 10%, amid robust increases in sales for fuel-efficient and hybrid vehicles. In a press release Monday, the Toyota Motor Corp. (TM) unit said September vehicle sales rose to 178,417 vehicles sold from 161,793 vehicles a year earlier. September 2005 had 25 selling days, the same as a year earlier. Toyota's passenger car sales for the month rose 23% to 96,780 vehicles from 78,738 a year ago, amid sales increases for its Avalon full-size sedan and the Prius gas-electric hybrid mid-size sedan. On a total sales basis, the Toyota Camry was the number one seller at 36,842 vehicles. Lexus car sales rose 16% to 10,771 vehicles during the month, with the highest sales increases from its GS 300 and GS 430 models. The most vehicles sold were from the auto maker's ES 330 models. September total light truck sales fell 5.2% to 59,601 vehicles, with the greatest percentage drop from its GX 470. Toyota's year-to-date total U.S. vehicle sales rose 12% to $1.71 million from $1.55 million a year earlier. Among the top three automakers, General Motors Corp. (GM), Ford Motor Co. (F) and Chrysler Group, a unit of DaimlerChrysler AG's (DCX) Chrysler Group all reported a drop in ales, as summer incentive programs pushed inventory levels to record lows. Shares of Toyota recently changed hands Monday at $92.79, up 42 cents, or 0.5% , in New York Stock Exchange composite trading.

Canada's September sales gains were up 3.1% compared to same month last year - with massive gains from smaller fuel efficient cars (Echo, Corolla/Matrix). But a massive overall drop for trucks. With these kinds of drops, makes me wonder if the new truck plant in Texas is at risk of being used to build something else.

Very impressive for the Camry to pass the Dodge trucks for third. Lookin at this list begs to ask some questions though:

How is Honda reporting such large gains in sales when their two top sellers have lost 1.8 and 3.0% respectively. Are these sales being driven by the Ridgeline and their small SUV's and Oddysey?
Is the Ford Explorer finally going to lose its spot as #1 SUV in the US(only 5k in front of the trailblazer)?

Wow. If the Camry is already selling this much, imagine when the new one comes out.

Ford's 06 Explorer should pick up the slack. The TrailBlazer is the shittiest SUV on the market. If it weren't for Avis, that thing wouldn't sell at all.
