Mini MOD:Painting front Toyota emblem! Pics and instructions inside!!
Thanks to 05XRunner for the idea! He was the first one to do it! I am not sure if he did a write up or posted on ToyotaNation. I saw this mod by him on TundraSolutions.
Instructions:
Remove the grille. Very simple, just 2 screws and 2 push pins need to be removed.
Pull the grille UPWARDS and it will pop off. Be careful because I pulled hard and the grille hit me on the chin and cut me up! LOL
Then the emblem is clipped onto the grille. Use your fingers to pop out the two top clips and the bottom one will come out automatically! Very easy!
Then you should sand the emblem down a tad bit. Especially on the edges! I didn't lay primer down. I just used Krylon Fusion paint for plastics ($4.99 at PepBoys). It worked great. I layed down about 3 coats. It took about 2 full days to dry completely! The weather here is windy and cold!
Then pop the emblem back on the grille. Put the bottom clip of the emblem in first then pop the two top clips back in! Re-install the grille and take some pics!
Pics:
The paint!

Right after the 3 coats!

Ghetto drying process!

Finished!

thats not what i would consider a mod.
a mod should provide some sort of performance benifit.

Oh my! Hater!
Mod is short for modification. I modified the color/appearance of the emblem.
So what should I call this then???
Performance gain: 10HP easy!

Ok, so about 50% are "NOT" mods that are in the DIY then? Dude get a clue. Anything done to a vehicle other than "Stock" is a "MOD!" Bottom line...whether it is performance or not!

maybe i'm old school or something, but i just can't get myself to call appearance/sound system/styling changes "mods". that's fine if you want to, but if you ever catch me doing it, please call me on it.
the painted emblem does look good. i like how looks in there.

Thanks!
The color is just straight black. It's shiny but has no pearl or metallic in it!

I think that anything that you do to your truck is a "MOD". If you take away the Stock aspect of it, then yes you have modified it in some way.
Blake, good job. Looks good. I may consider doing that. I looks pretty simple.

I wonder as well. I didn't lay any clearcoat down. If it doesn't hold up, it's fairly simple to do over again!

You don't have to remove the grill. The emblem can be removed easily from behind just by pushing the plastic clips with your finger.
