DTRL install DIY!

Here is a DIY for the installation of the factory DTRL.
Part # 82241-04030 and # 81980-35020 Relay and jumper. You can order it from here: http://www.trdparts4u.com/oem_parts.html

Here are the tool I used.

start by removing the rocker panel cover. Just pull up it is held on with clips.

Then remove the Foot pad; this is also held by clips; just pull:

There is a small plastic nut which needs to be removed:

Remove the kick panel by pulling it towards the back it is held on by 2 clips.

Then remove the 2-10 mm. bolts from the lower panel. Then pull out the little storage tray on the right side. (Just pull straight back) It is held on with clips.

Then pull the lower panel out. It is held on with the 2-10mm bolts (Which you removed in the previous step) and 3 clips which can be seen in the photo. Remember to remove the wire harnesses and the hood release.

Now remove the 3-10mm bolts that hold on the fuse box. Remove any wire harnesses that impede you from pulling the fuse box out. For me it was the 3 on the front left & one on the rear top portion. Use a needle nose to remove the clip without damage.

Now tilt the fuse box outwards and you will see the original relay. A square Tan relay.

Remove that and the gray plug that is located at the bottom of the rear of the fuse block. Below the flasher relay.

SORRY! The picture below is kind of confusing because the gray Jumper plug is already in the slot for the flasher!

Here is a picture of the 2 parts that you need to remove.

Now you need to assemble the new jumper and the new relay.

Now plug the gray end of the jumper into the slot where the old relay was located and the white plug into the slot where the gray blank plug was located. (This is how it should look when your done)

Now clip the new relay on to the holder which is located on the side of the fuse block near the steering:

And secure the wire with the clip that came on the jumper to the hole located on the back of the fuse block.

When you are done it should look like it came from the factory that way.

Now simply revers the process to put your panels back together and you are done!! DTRL work exactly like the factory install!!
If you have any questions please fell free to ask!!
Good luck!!

O.K. Remember that when you test it out, and turn your truck on? You need to release the parking brake for it to come on!

What fuse and wire????
If you are referring to the fuse block in the pictures? Then it is located behind the coin compartment above the parking brake.

Thank you toku58! I like it when you have the detail pics. At least I can follow it instead of just instruction of what go what. Good Job!! I will be getting this done when I get my truck in 2 weeks straight from the factory.

Toku, Excellent DIY pictures!! But I have a couple of questions, is the black box the relay that was one of the parts that is ordered? Also, I don't see where the relay box was installed? Or was the black box already on the truck and you just removed it because it make it easier to work on? Thanks for helping everyone out! Sorry for the stupid questions..

Yes. The black box is the new flasher (Relay) to replace the original one.Once you get the fuse box out abit you'll see a clip on the steering wheel side that it slips into..

I found it a bit of a pain to get my hands in there but you can.

Still waiting for mine to come in. From the looks of your instructions I will buy you two beers. One each for pointing me in the right direction for buying the parts and now how to install them with awsome pics. Thanks

Yes the black box is the relay, and yes it is one of the New parts. This is the clip where the relay mounts it is located on the steering column side of the fuse block.
